I recently brought 160gb hard disk, it doesn't detect by my windows vista system. I have enable SATA AHCI mode in bios, is there any special driver for AHCI mode? Vista boot if i select "IDE" for the SATA Mode. When i try to boot it shows error message " STOP 0x0000007B INACCESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE".

Re: SATA AHCI Mode

Switching the chipset to AHCI mode involves changing the BIOS settings and will not work. Usually, manual installation of new drivers is required before enabling AHCI in BIOS.Alternatively, a "Repair" installation with the appropriate driver loaded during the setup process usually corrects the problem.

Re: SATA AHCI Mode

This issue occurs if the AHCI driver (Msahci.sys) in Windows Vista is disabled. This driver must be enabled before you change the SATA mode of the boot drive. To resolve this issue, enable the AHCI driver in the registry before you change the SATA mode of the boot drive.
  • Exit all Windows-based programs.
  • Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
  • If you receive the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
  • Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Msahci
  • In the right pane, right-click Start in the Name column, and then click Modify.
  • In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.
  • On the File menu, click Exit to close Registry Editor.

Re: SATA AHCI Mode

It is a well known problem, that XP and Windows vista will refuse to start if you move a harddisk containing a system to a different motherboard. This error occur whrn you change the Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) mode of the boot drive to use the Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) specification.
