    Which DVD writer you are using? Try different CD and DVD's because it can be issue with the device speed of your dvd drive is configured to read at a specific speed and the cd or dvd that your are using has been written at a lower speed that can avoid the reading process.

    Here what you have to try:

    • Start Registry Editor (Start, Run and type in regedit then click O.K)
    • Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:

      Code:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    • On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
    • Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:

      Code:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    • On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
    • Quit Registry Editor.

    You can try a lens cleaning kit. If you have a desktop computer I would just advise you to replace the drive. However, laptop optical dries are more expensive so it may be worth it to try the cleaning kit. There are two separate lasers in most combo burners. The one for the CDs may be dirty enough that the laser can't penetrate sufficiently.
