Re: What is ieee 1394a adapter

To use all the capabilities of the IEEE 1394 standard, your computer must be equipped with an IEEE 1394 adapter. If your computer has a FireWire adapter, the adapter is IEEE 1394.

Some of the capabilities of a Windows XP computer with the IEEE 1394 standard are:
    • Immediate network connectivity by connecting two or more computers (no additional hardware is required).
    • Flow from end to end more than 50 Mbps with enough bandwidth remaining free for audio-video.
    • TCP / IP (Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol) over IEEE 1394. This function simplifies the sharing of an Internet connection when you connect a computer to the Internet and you connect multiple computers to the first computer. Service Internet Connection Sharing built into Windows XP provides support software required.

Re: What is ieee 1394a adapter

The IEEE-1394a adapter is a PCI interface board that provides IEEE-1394a functions for your system. IEEE-1394 is a high-performance serial bus that is formalized by the IEEE Standards board and submitted to ANSI. The IEEE-1394 standard describes a serial bus driven by an advanced communications protocol.

The IEEE-1394a standard specifies support for 100-, 200- and 400-Mbps transmission speeds, providing an ideal interconnect for multimedia and PC peripheral applications with high data-transfer rate requirements. This IEEE-1394a adapter is specified for maximum transmission of 400 Mbps, in accordance with IEEE-1394a.
