Re: Dell XPS 400 Motherboard Replacement Issue

The Dell system which you have was the first system which was based on Intel's new Viiv technology platform. Well this is the problem in branded machines. They have the hardware specifically designed and suitable for there hardware. Here if you insert any RAM it not work. You will need to have a complete specification of your machine and then look on the net that which type of RAM, processor, GPU is compatible.

Go on the Dell's website and look for your system specification. See what model of mother board and ram it supports. If you contact for the up-gradation process then that will be more helpful to your. As the software's which comes with Dell machine are hooked up with the BIOS. This will result in that other OS will not work. You can make it work but it will degrade your system reliability.

Re: Dell XPS 400 Motherboard Replacement Issue

I am listing you a system specification of Dell XPS 400. Purchase any hardware via this specification so you will not have any problem in the upgrade process. Normally you must be haven a Intel P4 processor which can be upgrade to Intel Pentium D upto 840 3.2Ghz Dual Core. The OS cd will be the same what you have. The motherboard in it is Intel 945P Chipset. The RAM module is 512MB Dual Channel DDR2-533 MHz SDRAM. You can upgrade it to 4GB Dual channel DDR2-667 MHz SDRAM. The GPU that will support the XPS mobo is ATI Radeon HypermemoryTM 5x600 SE upto 256MB PCI express, Second one is GeForce 6800 upto 256MB and Nvidia GeForce 7800 GTX upto 256MB.

Re: Dell XPS 400 Motherboard Replacement Issue

@deoWo, good info for upgrading the XPS400 but as of this date (3-18-2010) is this still the best upgrading that can be done to the XPS400? Or is it cheaper to buy something new? Thanks
