    erroneous applied thermal compound

    Hello guys
I assembled a new computer and now working with the heat sink, ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro already had a thermal compound pre-applied and forgot how to apply thermal compound. splashed some Arctic Silver 5 on there and spread it over the entire heat spreader. had some issues with while fitting

I'm confused to have Articlean and reapply.is it harm for the cpu..or what?

    Thanks for any help.

well you mentioned about the Arctic Silver 5,but i guess Arctic cooling MX2 gives more effects what the first.. use genuinely isopropyl alcohol clean off the CPU and heat sink.i would say you should concentrate the thickness of the thermal compound....

It will be fine placing a dollop in the middle of the CPU and make the heatsink spread it out when it is installed

proper cleaning is vital, the CPU heatspreader and the heatsink underside.remove the thermal compound If you had it before, with a paper towel. use Isopropyl Alcohol or a cleaner such as ArctiClean to clean the rest of it off. make sure that both surfaces are pretty clean since any left over compound may have trapped air behind it reducing the efficacy

place a small dollop in the middle of the CPU. Do not spread the thermal compound. For Arctic Silver 5, Arctic Silver recommends a drop about ¾ the size of a BB(Arctic Silver 5 Application), while Arctic Cooling recommends using a dollop about half the size of a dime for their MX-2 Thermal compound (Arctic-Cooling MX-2 Application).

Now mount the Heatsink on top of the CPU. Be sure to lower it directly down on the CPU to ensure that the thermal compound spreads in a semi uniform matter. Before you place the heatsink you should rotate the heatsink a few degrees in each direction to help spread out the thermal compound, there are likely air pockets between the CPU and Heatsink. if do the procedure again

    Re: erroneous applied thermal compound

Adding extra amount of thermal compound will definitely do the opposite it may act as a shield and will reduce the efficiency.so be wary of this fact...
apply paper thin layer on the heatsink with your finger before installing it. the entire contact area between CPU and heatsink is covered, else will introduce hot-spots can form.then press the heatsink firmly on the CPU.
