Sata controller ahci mode not shown in BIOS

I have a Seagate 160GB hard disk drive. I know ahci mode gives better performance then normal IDE mode, so when i rebooted my computer and went to BIOS configuration setup, i could not find an option to select ahci mode. There were only two modes available; IDE and RAID. Can anyone help me?

Which motherboard do you use? Well i doubt if there is an option of ahci mode for 160GB hard disks. Also mention the complete motherboard manufacturer's name and model number. Also check if the hard disk is ahci compatible for the motherboard.

Try to update your BIOS. Go to the gigabyte website and download the latest BIOS firmware. Also download the BIOS flashing tool. Burn a DOS bootable CD along with these tools. Boot from the CD and flash your BIOS. Now check if you have the option that you have been looking for...
