Its upto processor, and Yes you system supports the 64 bit OS, go to this link http://processorfinder.intel.com/ to know more features supported by your processor.
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (3.6GHz, 1.44v) with TR Ultra 120E,
Gigabyte GA-EX38-DQ6 v1.1, 4GB G.Skill PI 1066 5-5-5-15 2.1v ,
Powercolor ATI HD4870X2 2GB, 4x SATA2 500GB Samsung HDD RAID 10,
Creative X-Fi, Dell 2408WFP A01 24" LCD,
Acer P221w 22" LCD,
Corsair HX-1000 Watt PSU,
Vista 64-bit.
You can come to know this clearly with the application CPU-Z, its free and very useful utility to know about the system performance and all details.
Download CPU-Z
Download it and run it , if you see X86-64" or "EMT64"next to the "Instructions" in the CPU tab, then your processor supports the 64-bit OS.
Buddy your system is fully compatible with 64-bit OS etc , Just go for it without hesitation and it will support all the application that 32-bit OS supports, It has a 32-bit emulator which runs all 32 bit programs in 32 bit. But first make sure that you have the 64 bit drivers for all your hardware, it often happens that after installing 64-bit OS people doesn't finds the compatible 64-bit OS drivers for their hardware devices.
