Logitech QuickCam freezes Yahoo Messenger

I have Logitech QuickCam which is giving problem with yahoo messenger. The webcam installs properly and works fine. Also in yahoo it detects the cam properly. But when I start the cam while chatting, it hangs the computer and the screen freezes forever. What is the problem with Logitech QuickCam and Yahoo Messenger ?

Maybe the Logitech QuickCam is defective. have you tried it on other PC? It can also be that there may be no problem with yahoo messenger and the QuickCam but the problem is the PC.

I dont think the camera is any problem because I have already tried it on the same PC with Skype and there it is detected and works absolutely fine. The problem occurs only when it is used with Yahoo messenger. That too when the webcam is started in chat window and not while detecting the cam in the messenger.

This a Bizzare workaround that worked for me !!! I am actually using Creative Webcam, but I have similar problem.

Try this...

Install Trillian messenger Pro (there is Basic and Pro version, but both are free)
Log in to Yahoo account in Trillian messenger Pro
Invite someone for video chat, press stop button on video bar.
trillian hangs,
leave trillian hanging..(don't try to kill it)

Start yahoo messenger and start webcam, it should work..

If your antivirus firewall is on, make it off for the meantime and then check if your Logitech QuickCam is hanging the PC when using with Yahoo Messenger. If it does not hangs, then it is sure that the built-in antivirus firewall is blocking the port Yahoo! Messenger webcam. In such case, you can add Yahoo! Messenger to the firewalls exceptions list.
