CD drive randomly opens
I have dell desktop 4600 and windows xp .The CD drive has been opening and closing randomly and the system has been behaving unresponsive and strange. What's the problem? How to solve it. Please help.

Try reinstalling the CD-rom, for this go to control panel ->device manager->locate you drive ->uninstall DVD drive -> restart your computer.

Bow after restarting XP will automatically recognise it as a new hardware and will automatically install it. This should clear up any issues you have. if not you may have a virus, IRQ conflict, or bad cd drive.

It surly must be a virus. If you don't have any antivirus or other protection installed then install Spybot or Ad-Aware or AVG Anti-Virus and Then run each of those until it finds something. Hope this will help. Good luck!

It can be because of bad registry values, you should consider a system restore or the repair install of windows xp. Do a anti-virus scan first.
