Laptop touchpad freezes

I have problem with hp laptop. My touchpad will lock up for a few seconds. When i open any application the arrow moves but it freezes for sometime, if you again scroll your finger in right or left direction in that movement it stop responding. I am pretty sure it is a problem related to the touchpad. I have installed windows vista.

Go to Device Manager, locate mice and on toolbar at top locate the uninstall icon, then reboot unit, and let Hardware Install Wizard reload the device. If you've uninstalled the touch pad software and it still happens, it might be the touch pad itself acting up.

Restart the laptop in Safe Mode by pressing F8 key as soon as vista logo appears on the screen and selecting the Safe Mode line.Try reloading your system drivers (original Operating System disk). If the touchpad works fine in Safe Mode, then you have a piece of software that conflicts with the touchpad in Normal Mode.Did you try updating your bios and synaptics drivers?

Did you have this problem when the hp laptop was brand new? Most likely a software issue. Installed another copy of Windows on another drive.... if keypad and touch pad works then replaced the keyboard drivers of the original installation.
