How to determine if computer will accept hi speed usb 2.0 pci card

I am going to buy Belkin USB 2.0 Hi-Speed PCI Card very soon. I am having GIGABYTE EX58-UD4P motherboard under Windows XP. Can I use the pci card or will I face any issues using the card? Did any body tried this ever or am the first to experiment this? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

You can definitely use the pci card without any issues. I you are thinking of the operating system to support then I would like to bring to your notice that even Windows 98 can support USB 2.0, you just need appropriate drivers for the same depending on the operating system.

Just buy which ever you like but in my opinion VIA-based USB 2.0 pci cards are very cheap.

Most USB 2.0 pci card manufacturers have developed USB 2.0 drivers targeting Windows 98 and Windows ME users. All the PCI/USB cards should be tested by the manufacturers and will function properly with the branded USB 2.0/PCI card drivers. You must use Microsoft USB 2.0 drivers for systems running Windows XP and Windows 2000. The drivers can be loaded from Microsoft Windows Update after the card is installed.

Just keep this in mind that you just need to know what operating system you are having. The OS should support USB 2.0. The motherboard can not be the issue because it can have USB 1.0 or 1.1 support. The PCI versions may also matter. If the PCI slot version is too old then it shouldn't support.

Go to Device Manager & expand usb controllers and if you see any "Enhanced", then your MB will support USB 2.0.
