| A couple of drive problems Very frustrated!
I have a Gigabyte GA-G33M-S2 with an Intel E4300 and a Samsung 300GB SATA hard drive running Vista home basic. When I got the machine a little over a year ago I installed a Liteon DVD burner and a Seagate hard drive, both IDE, and they worked fine. The Liteon recently stopped reading DVDs and I assumed the DVD laser had gone bad (I've burned a few hundred since I got it). I got a Samsung SH-S223Q SATA burner and installed it the other day. I left the Seagate hooked up (it's set on cable select) and on boot up would get stuck at "Detecting IDE drives...". I unhooked the Seagate, wanting to see if the new burner worked and it did. I burned a few DVDs and everything seemed OK with it. Yesterday I tried to get the Seagate and another HD (an older Western Digital from an Emachine) working. Now I can't get either of the HDs working and the burner has quit reading DVDs. With the HDs with either both of them or just the Seagate plugged in and powered I get stuck at "Detecting IDE drives...", with just the Western plugged up it doesn't seem to see it at all. I've tried master/slave and cable select. I'm not too worried about the Western but I have a lot of stuff on the Seagate I need to get. The other problem is that now the new burner doesn't see DVDs. After I rebooted about an hour ago it was reading one but then quit again. I do have Nero installed and have read that that can cause the problem. If that's the problem why did it work to start with??? |

First check the cable (again) for proper orientation.Do a reset on your BIOS to default it and check that all the IDE channel are set to auto . Post your system specification ! |

I think the problem is with the drivers. Remove and reinstall your drivers or update drivers from the Hardware tab in the Device Manager. |

What is the jumper setting you have on your CD drive, have you tried cable select. If that doesn't work then it may be that there is a problem with the ide cable going to your CD drive. Have you tried swapping the cables around or trying one cable at a time to see if there is one particular cable that doesn't seem to want to work as well as the others. If this doesn't work and you have tried new cables (very cheap) then the issue is probably with the slots on the motherboard. Connecting firmly may help in some way! |

OK I found the problem with the hard drives When I changed drives I used a different power cable in the computer and I just noticed the yellow wire was cut!?!Quote:
