What is the Difference between a Quick format and a regular format ?

    Hello,

I want to know the difference between a Quick format and a regular format ? I have heard that with quick format there is no error checking or something along those lines. Now, I want to format my 500GB hard drive. Both clears the data from the disk, but which is recommendable ?

    Help me Guys !!!

    Hi,

Quick Format : Just clears data, it doesn't check for disk errors. It is fast process.

Full Format : Checks disk for bad sectors and even clears the data. It consumes lot time.

    Hi,

During a reinstallation of Windows XP you will be asked to switch between the following formatting options:

Partition with the NTFS file format (quick)
Partition with the FAT file format (quick)
Partition with the NTFS file format
Partition with the FAT file format
Current file system intact (no changes)

If you decide on a data formatting a normal run, first copy the files from which to format the disk away. Then the disk on faulty sectors. The search for bad sectors takes the bulk of the time required for the formatting of a disk is needed.

If you opt for the quick format to decide, while the files from the partition removed, the search for bad sectors, however, is omitted. You should only use this option if your hard drive was previously formatted and you are sure that the disk is not damaged.

If you run Windows on a partition installed, with the quick format has been formatted, you can use your hard drive using the command chkdsk / r can check after the installation of Windows is complete.

I hope, you got the answer !!
