Kensington MouseWorks and Windows Vista

Hello, I know that you all might be aware of the fact that Kensington MouseWorks for Vista are not being developed. But there is a workaround for the MouseWorks 6.2.2 to work with Vista. Follow the methods below:

1. Extract MouseWorks_PC_622.exe using WinRAR or similar utility.
2. Burn the extracted folder to a CD, (not absolutely necessary but easier).
3. Insert CD and run setup.exe, restart when driver has finished installing, (leave CD installed).
4. After startup, Open device manager and under Human Interface Devices determine which USB port your mouse or trackball is connected to.
6. Select the driver tab, and select update driver, (select the CD if needed).
This will install the driver correctly and the MouseWorks software will now recognize the correct Kensington product that you are using.

This method may work with drivers for input devices other than Kensington as well.

That's great news. I'll give it a shot when I get home tonight. I find it interesting that after the Kensington folks were very adamant that they were NEVER going to support Vista with their software because Vista handled all the important functions already. (Not true, but the Kensington folks didn't seem to care when I called them.)

As a sidenote, I had real problem with this mouse lately: all of the buttons would suddenly become disabled. I'd click and nothing. The only solution was to reboot - logging out, restarting mouseworks didn't work. This would happen randomly - once every week or once every two days. There was no logic to it.

I emailed Kensington Tech Support and they were great. They immediately responded by telling me they thought the mouse was defective and they would send me a new one. Because they didn't have my model in stock they offered another and said mine was on back order. I opted to wait and they sent me a in-box replacement within a few days.

Kensington is a great company and would by from them again for sure.
