XP C: drive ok in Windows Explorer not in Disk Management (screen shots attached)

    Hi,

I see only CD-ROM drive under Disk Management. Hard disks are not seen. Logical drive C and D are otherwise accessible (eg., via Explorer, Disk Defragmenter) and work normally.

I had setup the following services with Start up Type = Automatic:
    • Plug and Play (Logon as Local service)
    • Remote Procedure Call (RPC) (Logon as Network Service)
    • Logical Disk Manager (Logon as Local service)
    • Logical Disk Manager Administrative Service (Logon as Local service)

I also tried adding the following to the list above without luck:
    • Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator (Logon as Network Service)

System: Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP 3

I also had an E drive (Seagate Free Agent Pro connected to USB port). This is not showing anywhere (Explorer or Disk Manager). However, Partition Manger (3rd party software) picked it up and shows correct % used/free. Device Manger shows it correctly too under Disk Drives.

    Help please...

    Regards,
    Anil

Make sure the master drive is attached to the last connector on the ribbon cable and that the jumper switch is set to MASTER (WITH SLAVE if available) on the Master and (SLAVE) on the slave.

Is it formatted? It needs to be.

Even if it is, you may need to go into My Computer/manage/disk management

See if it's there. You may have to "activate" it:

Check "rescan disk", or possibly "initialize", both of which my not take effect until you restart.

Thank you all for the replies.

I have tried everything being suggested.

My PC works normally. All the drives including the external drive were showing in "DISK MANAGEMENT". Since few days ago E drive totally disappeared except under "DEVICE MANAGER / DISKS". C drive works fine except it is no longer seen in "DISK MANAGEMENT".

Was a virus problem (ROOTKIT). Removed them all and everything is fine now. Thank you all for your time.

I think I am having the same problem. What did you use to get rid of it?
