    IDE controller defective?

    hi,
I have a Asus P5GD1 Pro with a P IV 640, 2GB DDR1-400,I have reinstalled XP and it run smoothly. After two reboots (have a few Windows-based add-ons such as MSN, etc. removed and the graphics driver installed) does not recognize Win drives (but all hard drives) and gave more to the IDE and floppy controllers a resource conflict code 12. I then the floppy controller disabled what the conflict is resolved and the computer would restart.

My guess would be a defect of the IDE controller. Does anyone know what causes this issue and how to fix it?Any help will be extremely appreciated.

Safe Mode? most obvious of course it would be the state before the problem So the floppy controller being activated again in the bios and see what happens. or the optical drives and pull the first hard disk (s) to the controller connecting the optical drives.

    Thank you for your reply.

    A) Safe Mode just to reboot and stays in the loop hanging.
    B) I've never been in the BIOS was disabled but only under Windows (in Device Manager) -> I can not restore as long as Windows does not start.
    C) I can understand the hard drive is not connected to the optical drives. The optical drives are PATA.
