ThumbsUp Dell Introduces Colorful Inspiron Desktops

Dell has unveiled a colorful range of Inspiron Desktop cabinets in slim and mini form factors for the fashion conscious consumers. Dell is also offering custom configurations to suit different budgets.

These new Dell Inspiron systems will be available in eight vibrant colors. Desktop systems will be first shipped to China and then to the US later this year.

The new Dell Inspiron Desktop systems will be offered in two form factors - mini-tower and slim-tower. These systems are available in following eight colors- true blue, piano black, formula red, tangerine orange, spring green, pure white, flamingo pink and plum purple. Consumers can choose the cabinet color and customize the configuration as per their budget as well as usage need

The system configuration offers choice for Intel Celeron, Intel Core 2 Duo and Intel Core 2 Quad options or AMD Sempron, Athlon X2 and Phenom X4 processors. However, no new Phenom II processors would be offered. Select systems can support up to 8GB memory. The slim-towers can hold up to 750GB storage while mini-towers can accommodate 1TB storage. It's surprising that there is no option to add 2TB HDDs.

Nowadays, since most people go for HD displays, providing HDMI out on-board would've eliminated the need for a HDMI adaptor. Offering six USB ports is so clich and mere two ports on the front panel will undermine the purpose of USB ports. Also, the dual optical drive to choose Blu-ray is offered in the slim-tower only.

Re: Dell Introduces Colorful Inspiron Desktops

It seems like manufacturers seem most interested in separating themselves from the competition in terms of colors and design, and less in terms of technology. Two taglines from their emailed press release (emphasis mine):

    • People Have Complete Control of Power, Color and Size.
    • Fresh ID and vibrant colors express personal style and complement any environment.

Here are the specs as announced by Dell today:

    • IntelĀ® CeleronĀ®, Intel Core(tm) 2 Duo and Intel Core 2 Quad options or AMD Sempron(tm), Athlon(tm) X2 and Phenom(tm) X4 processor options
    • Integrated Intel or ATI Radeon(tm) graphics on select systems with discrete graphics options available
    • Up to 8GB memory on select systems
    • Up to 750GB storage (slim tower) or up to 1TB storage (mini-tower)
    • Optional 19-in-1 media card reader and optional HDMI connectivity
    • 6 USB ports (2 front, 4 back)
    • Dual optical options (mini-tower only) including Blu-ray Disc(tm) drive
    • Small form factor with its versatile horizontal or vertical placement is designed to easily fit into your home media center (slim tower only)
