I recently acquired two drives of 1TB each. Now I ask myself the question how well the partition? Is it wise to create a disc of one TB? Or should I make it smaller?
Personally I run 1TB for Windows and 1.5TB for my document which results in a crash. So better you sort your drive in smaller to avoid the loss of your data.
Just a useful detail, I have two drives of 300GB and 250GB. And my system is already over.
About me, when I have a large disk partitions I giving them a name as a file that is faster to handle

D: Photos
E: Games
F: Movies
....
4 x 500 seems to be not too bad either?
Avoid having too many partitions, you find yourself stupidly with a lack of space on one partition and you will be blocked. If you can actually reallocate the space with partition magic. But for a top four partitions you leave the room to see what happens.
1st partition: VIDEOS
2nd partition: MP3
3rd partition: Games
4th partition: Datas
