unsure New Computer but driver versions are from 2001

I recently purchased a Lenovo T400. It was from the Lenovo Outlet and it was labled "Redistributed" not Refurbished. Many of the drivers are running on version 5.1.2600 or 5.1.2535.0 drivers dated 7/1/2001, and there are no further updates. These include the ACPI Multi-processor PC, the Microcode update device, the Ricoh R/RL5C476 (II) or compatible CardBus Controller, and approximately 3/4 of the rest of the drivers.

My question is am I incorrect in that since I just purchased it 2 wks ago, and it was a Redistributed ThinkPad T400, shouldn't my drivers all be pretty much up to date and not nine years old with no further updates available?

I am running Windows XP (with a Vista upgrade disk, but I have no intentions on using it). Intell Core 2 Duo 8600, 2.40ghz, 3mb, 1066mhz FSB; Hard drive is 160 gb, 72000 RPM, and I was under the impression that it was a Serial ATA 2.5" drive, but it's a Fujitsu mhz2160BJ G1 - again yr 2001 driver, and a Matshita DVE-RAM UJ862A - also yr 2001 driver. I feel like it's outdated already and I've only had it a couple weeks.

Also I noticed it came from Lenovo in Japan, and the Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity on the bottom, all the ink smudged on the certificate numbers so that you cannot even read the numbers. I've never had that happen in 25years of using Microsoft equipment.

I hope I wasn't too verbose, but didn't know exactly what info you would need to answer my question - which probably is really - DID I GET RIPPED OFF?

Thanks so much,
Candace

Usually all driver updates are to be made manually cause if you purchase a laptop that has been sealed for year 2008 Jan and you purchase it in the year 2009 Jan then def. the drivers that is installed would be old. So it is a manual process is what I think from my point of view.

Are you having any problems with the working of this Lenevo Thinkpad? The drivers should not have been so old, but then if it is functioning properly then it is still good. You can update manually the drivers that you fell should be latest which may improve the performance of your lappy. Leave other drivers which upgrade will not affect much.

Well, if your lappy is not working properly or optimally due to such old drivers and with other issues being involved like MS certificate and all, then it indeed looks like you have been ripped off.

And I did try to individually update each of the older version drivers, but that was my point - they were already updated to the most recent version, which only went up to 2001. But thanks for your explanation, it makes sense.

Re: New Computer but driver versions are from 2001

Solved by a phone call to Lenovo tech support. The guy was very helpful and patient with all my questions. Bottom line was the laptop came with Vista, but I requested they load XP. They did so, and then sent me the Vista upgrade disks to load at a later time if I so choose (I don't.), and explained that XP is an old version and so the drivers would also be old, but when (if) I load Vista, all my drivers will be brought up to date.
I'm not having any problems with the lappy, in fact I love it. It was more that I felt I bought a new computer so I expected new drivers, but now I understand and am satisfied with result.
As far as the smudged Microsoft Certificate, although Lenovo tech has never come across this problem before, I was told it wouldn't have any affect on my support because all that info is listed in the Bios of my lappy. Not sure how it will affect me down the line - think I will call Microsoft tech and get their opinion on it. So thanks for your help - it was appreciated.
