    Hard Disk not recognised

    Hey everyone!
I have a problem and i can't get through it. I have an external Samsung hard drive which is connected via a usb cable. My usb cable and the case is damaged. So, i just opened and found the hardisk which was a internal SATA hardisk. Instead of paying for a new external case I took a sata cable and a sata power adapter, and connected it to the motherboard, but the drive is not being recognized. Do i need any of driver to get my hard disk recognized or could I have used the wrong cable (sata instead of sata2), the drive is a 320gb samsung.
    Help guys...! Thanks in advance...!

    Hey!
Look for the sata driver on your motherboard CD.
You will need to make a floppy with the sata drivers and hit F6 when XP asks about special drivers for Raid etc...
    All the best!

    Hey!
There could be several reasons for your HDD not working :

    • BIOS needs Update
    • Drivers Required
    • Power Supply Faulty
    • Power Cable Faulty
    • Sata cable fault
    • Wrong Cable installed [sata instead of sata2]
    • Motherboard Port fault
    • And lastly Hard Disk faulty...

    All the best...!!

    Hey!

Try checking your hard drive connection power and IDA or SATA.

    • Shut down your computer
    • Take the cover off
    • now find your hard drive and check to see if the power,IDE,or SATA connection are good and snug. Ive found that in 90% of the machines I've worked on this was the problem.

If its a SATA drive you might need to update the Raid\SATA drivers.
