    PCI cards does not responds

I have for a long time had a firewire card connected to one of the PCI ports. This has always been reasonably stable, but now has the strike completely. When I connect anything to the PC card does not respond on this. Have tried with two different firewire card, but without success. Have some bearing on where the error lies?

First and foremost, the card comes up in Device Manager? Are you sure you have installed the correct drivers? Perhaps it must be added for special drivers? Have you tried putting the card in the second PCI slot on the motherboard? It might perhaps be wise to try another type of PCI cards to insert in, to see if it is detected/works in Windows XP. Also there may be something in the BIOS that is preventing FireWire card from working.

    Thanks for your reply!

The card comes up in device manager as "Texas Instruments OHCI-compliant IEEE 1394 host controller". Regarding drivers so installed automatically by windows. Have tried to put the card in various other PCI slots, but unfortunately without success. Think unfortunately I do not have any other PCI card left, but can probably borrow some of a fellow ...

My expertise when it comes to the BIOS is very small, and it is therefore difficult to say whether it is caused by settings here.

This is strange stuff. Since you have tried two different FireWire card, I do not think the error lies with the card. And in that it has worked before, I believe not that there is a BIOS that is blocking the use of the card. Have you tried with different devices connected to the FireWire port(s)? Could it be the equipment there is something wrong with? Otherwise, I expect that you have Checked that all the gold-plated section (ie the socket) of the card disappear in the "gap" to the PCI slot? Do not think there is such a stupid thing to borrow a card to a buddy, to see how it works.

Re: PCI cards does not responds

Have now tried with a network adapter, and it worked well. Do not say me if this makes any difference, but the network has only a "notch" in the gold-plated section, while firewire cards have two.

It is strange that both firewire cards appear in device manager, but when I connect anything to the card nothing happens. Have tested the camera and sound card (using firewire) on a laptop and it worked normally, so the error must have a connection with the cards?
