Hello m I used a program called Super to convert .mkv files to PS3. There is a PS3 setting already included. After that you still have to run it through that little Quicktime process mentioned here, but it works. Only thing though is there is no 1280x544 setting, and I have a bunch of videos with that resolution. My only choice is to encode the mpeg4 at 1280x720 which stretches the image. Hopefully a future version contains more options for the PS3 setting.

Re: x264 Encoding options for Playstation 3

Hello , I have Always been encoding with all kinds of advanced settings and they play fine on the PS3. I think the PS3's reputation of being rather incompatible is maybe a little overrated. The only real issue is the lack of AC3 support on the PS3. But other than that pretty much anything I tried played on the PS3. The built in PS3 preset doesn't work for me. The quality is pretty bad despite the high bitrate. I came up with one of my own settings cranking up some of the advanced settings and using 2 pass encoding that produced very good quality, but encoding took way too long. I'm experimenting with different settings right now to find a good balance between speed and quality. It's hard as there is no easy way to look at the DVD original and the encoded movie at the same time. Even comparing different encoding settings is hard. Depending on the scene some of the advanced settings will have an effect or not at all.
