    hi,
i just got Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160GB SATA Hard Drive with intel 965 express.i am wondering if the DVD rom drive needs to be connected to the Hard drive, or just the motherboard? So, do you think I will run into any problems when installing these drives?Any recommendations and suggestions are appreciated.

This Ultra ATA-To-1 Port Serial ATA Converter is the solution for converting a Serial ATA device. It features a Serial ATA port to connect SATA devices such as hard drives, DVD-ROM,or CD-ROM drives to a Parallel ATA interface. You won't get SATA speed from the SATA drive because it's connected ultimately to the IDE port, so it doesn't matter which drive you install windows on.

You won't lose any speed by connecting the DVD-ROM to the same channel as the IDE hard drive though, it's designed to do that

The repair option is normally only used to try and get windows to boot up again when it's become totally screwed up. It may produce a slight speed increase, but it's more for curing system errors like missing .dll files and all of that stuff. A fresh reinstall is always best

    hi,
You will have no problems with the SATA drive. Windows can not use SATA drives natively. You will need to either hit f6 and supply the SATA drivers, or map the SATA ports to the IDE ports. (as I understand it, most motherboards ship with this happing in the bios by default, mine did.) There are no problems with the Optical drive on the IDE bus and the harddrive on the SATA bus.
