You need a different type of cable which has centronics [printer interface is centronics] interface at the printer side and 9-pin D port [com port] interface on the computer side. Now the cable will be connected to the com port instead of lpt port. Try it out...
Hope this works! All the best!

Check if the com port and lpt port is detected by the computer. To check this do the following :

Right Click on the Copmputer [My Computer] and click on properties.
Click on the Device manager [top left corner]
Check there if those ports are detected in there.

    All the best!

Hey thanks man! I checked the Device manager as told by you, there are no ports detected as such. Does this mean i need to revert back to Windows XP? I am so much fascinated by the windows vista's appearance and have updated my machine so that vista runs on it! Now i don't want my spending go in vain!! Help guys! How do i make those ports detect in Vista? Is there any patch which i can use to detect those ports?

Check the motherboard's bios settings are not disabled for the com port and lpt port. You might have screwed the setting while installing vista and might have switched the default setting. All the Best! Hope This works!
