Problem with my Hp printer

Hi,
I am using Ubuntu and have a problem with my new hp printer. when i print a picture it successfully prints out without any problem but the problem starts when i try printing a written document from open office the page comes out blank however. Is there anything i have to do ?

Did you use the 'automatic installer' from hp site? And are you sure your printer was connected to a working USB port (run the 'lsusb' command to make sure the computer can see something attached...it's possible that your USB connection was shot). There should also be an option during the hp setup to specify manually the address of the printer (which you can also figure out by using 'lsusb'); you may want to try that.

If you still can't figure it out, let us know. Also, you may want to try using Ubuntu 8.10, which will hopefully have real out-of-the-box support for this printer.

your problem may well be more OpenOffice.org than CUPS related. In my Debian Sid box printing from OpenOffice.org works out of the box, but if I try to tweak settings in oopadmin it mysteriously stops working. IMO, OpenOffice.org needs to improve their printing settings. Gnome and KDE related apps have much better printing support.
