Yes your drive is probably dying. You have to backup or your done ...
Partitioning spares nothing in your disk.

    re: Hard disk error

I had the same problem recently with the crash of HD led stays lit. Then error with the drive to restart. Then after a few tens of minutes, the disc is correctly recognized again and it departed.

I identified this problem as being caused by my version of Spy Bot. If you use this software, disable it or uninstall it just to see.

    Re: Hard disk error

There is a windows disk check utility that should serve the purpose.
The steps to use it are:
    - Double-click on My Computer to open the My Computer window.
    - Select the disk that you want to diagnose and repair.
    - Choose Properties from the File menu. You should see the Properties window for the drive that you selected.
    - Choose the Tools tab.
    - Click the Check Now button under Error Checking Status.
    - Depending on your version of Windows, choose either "Thorough" or "Scan for and Attempt Recovery of Bad Sectors."
    - Click on Start.
