Can recognize CD but not DVD

I have Q6700 @ 3.5 Stable
Motherboard XfX 790i Ultra
GeForce 8800 GTX OC
Corsair Memory 2 GB PC3200 DDR RAM,Pioneer - BDC-S02BK with both CD & DVD/RW drives.They recognize CDs but no longer recognizes DVDs.I have Windows Media Player, ITunes, Roxio & WIN-DVD4 players. I've tried working with the DMA settings,If I remove the drive from the device manager, and restart, XP finds the drive and re-installs it, but it still won't see CD's or DVD's.

I had the same problem but with windows xp pro . I upgraded from windows 98 to XP pro and everything was fine.after some time XP decided not to recognize my Sony DVD RW DRU-810A.XP says the drivers are either missing or corrupt. I copied the drivers off of the XP CD and re-installed them in the correct place but it didn't slove the problem I also tried to uninstall and reinstall and then problem sloved.i hope this will work for you.

this Sounds like one of the lasers is not working. CD/DVD drives has two lasers.One for CD and one for DVD. Try one or the other. If one type works and not the other, the laser died.

i think this problem not related with software if DVD works for long time before get diamage when both drives worked perfectly. Now one drive works flawlessly while the other is having problems with DVD's both data and video while CD's work fine in it. Both drives are the exact same make, model and firmware revision. What does the BIOS report for IDE drives?
