Why external hard drives are not NTFS?

    Hi everyone,
Why external hard drives are not (at least by default) to NTFS? Is this a good idea to put it to NTFS? If anyone knows enlighten me.

    Thank you and good day

Simply because that is not an NTFS file system recognized by all operating systems or devices capable of receiving the connection of a USB hard drive.
