Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device

"Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device"

I installed the hard drive and it was recognized by the BIOS at start up but not by windows. I have already installed Windows XP SP2. I disconnected the hdd and attempted to boot from a CD drive but still got the same message. Also same with the floppy drive.

    Motherboard: ASUS P5Q Pro
    HDD - WD400EB 40GB (Master); WD1600JB 160GB (Slave)

It's possibly a problem with your BIOS settings. Perhaps the BIOS is not correctly configured to find your hard drive, so the BIOS may have to search for it every time.

Just try to do some basic testing before deciding what's wrong:

Have you checked the cables etc inside the case? Can you hit F8 (or whatever is applicable) while booting to access boot options? If so, try booting to "Last known good configuration".

You can also try going into BIOS and changing the boot sequence, booting from disk, and try the repair options.

It could be the problem of HDD and so you need to test it or you might be using a power supply that isn't working properly and is unable to deliver sufficient power to start the HDD.

Your main HDD with Windows installed should always be set as Master. However it sounds more like the Master Boot Record of your HDD is screwed up. Boot up with the Windows XP CD and see if you can access the C:\Windows directory. There are also some utilities on the WD website that can scan your HDD for any problems, physical or software faults, and may try to correct them.
