Western Digital WD20WEADS 2TB Hard Drive Announced

Engaged in the race to record capacity, Wester Digital striking a major blow today with the official announcement of the first 3.5-inch hard drive of 2TB (two terabytes, or two gigabytes miles) from the market. Referenced as WD20WEADS, this model belongs to the range Caviar Green supposed to have energy characteristics consistent with concerns about the environment, and should be quickly available for sale.

The WD20WEADS uses logical interface SATA II 3Gb / s, and has 32 MB of cache. Guaranteed three years, according to the manufacturer offers a consumption read / write of about 7.4 W, against 3.9 W in idle. It should be noted that Western Digital does not speed trays, or the range has so far counted as models 5400 rpm. It can therefore be assumed that the same will apply to this new model. The manufacturer says that it uses four 500GB platters and uses algorithms to optimize the operation of the read heads. Due to very high density trays, performance should be correct, although it was not until the first tests to judge really.

In the USA, the retail price of WD20WEADS announced by Western Digital is 299 dollars, associated with immediate availability.
