    USB 2 hard drive Slow

    hi,
i have 16GB Portable Flash Drive USB2.0 - Portable Hard Drive.it takes too much time to copy the data from my internal hard drive. it takes 3 to 4 hour for 10gb. i think it's too slow.

anyone have any ideas to how I can speed it up a little?

    Q6700 @ 3.5 Stable
    Motherboard XfX 790i
    Ultr Memory4 x 1024 Corsair DDR3
    GeForce 8800 GTX OC
Is my machine built to run USB2 correctly?

any one else have a issue with this?

I'm just using HD Tach to test the transfer rate of an external HDD.

The Hitachi internal i just installed now gets 32MB/s avg inside the laptop.
When I had it hooked up to USB port w/ an enclosure 8MB/s.

Another external drive that gets 25MB/s on a desktop PC as an external gets 8MB/s on this laptop.

    hi,
Maybe it is a drive issue, but I'm not sure.
Back when I had this slow problem with one of my several USB Enclosures .
I reformatted and reloaded the external HD.This seemed to solve the problem for a while.I had a hunch that this was caused when I shut down the external without safely disconnecting it.

    hi,
You can't really do much to speed them up. What determines the speed is what kind of USB it is, like 2.0 or 1.1. USB 2.0 is faster so make sure your computer has USB 2.0 ports. Otherwise your devices will just go back to the USB 1.1 speeds. Sorry, I know its not what you really wanted to hear.

    hi,
Your usb data speed depends on what your com port is set to. if you have alot of usb ports then they share the bandwidth between them. so you may only get 20% of your actuall bandwidth if you have a few other usb devices sharing the bandwidth. you can go to your device manager on your pc and increase the percentage your com port uses of the bandwidth
