    Default dates

I have an old PC which is 4 years, P4. Over the past couple of months i have been noticing that when i switch on the PC, it directly opens in the bios and the date goes to default, i.e., 1/1/2002 even the time is changed. Can any one shed light on this?? is it battery problem??

You are most likely having a dead Cmos battery on your motherboard, so try to change it and see if the problem persists.

The solution is simple; all you have to do is to change the cmos battery but be careful if you are not sure how to do it contact you computer technician as if you remove the battery wrongly on the motherboard you can damage the motherboard. changing the cmos battery is simple but a bit risky just be sure of what you are doing ..

As soon as you have changed the battery then you can configure the bios correctly, setting the date and time, the boot sequence and all that. but here also be sure of what you are doing as wrong configuration in the bios will result in the malfunctionning of your computer. what you have to do is to refer to your motherboard manual.
