A friend of mine is having a serious problem. His problem is that his machine could not recognize the CD/DVD recorder/reader. Even restoring the system did nothing. Can anyone please help me ?

Without knowing which recorder and PC, it would be difficult to advise. But still, the most common things that cause this problem are somewhat with updated drivers or direct the reader is dead.
Friend looks like that might be problems with driver, often hardware or software ...
Go to Start, then right click on the My Computer, Properties, Select Hardware, then choose Device Manager
Look here if you can see a yellow exclamation mark.
Going from the physical to the non-physical ... If the bios does not recognize, then check the connections and jumpers:
There is a sticker on the recorder and the reader.
The label should be installed as the jumpers (small connectors on the side of a large ribbon cable). Usually the recorder should be placed as a master, and the reader as slave.
