    hello,
you can borrow a keyboard from a friend or someone and check it or better you can take your keyboard to different pc and test it It look likes someone might have spilled liquid into it,and it s circuitry may have gone bad

mostly all laptops have a Function Key and NUMLOCK function. the issue here would be with the numlock if it's on, then you keyboard letter turn to numbers you can try turning it off and you can check and confirm this thing by looking at the keyboards keys. they should note a superscript 'color coded' alternate key. eg - the K key has a '2' in small blue (or such) color at the top of the key.from the sound of it, this is the issue and i'd bet that the numlock 'state' is preserved across reboots. eg - u MUST manually hit the numlock key function to turn it off. if it always goes to numlock state no matter what u do, check bios for a 'numlock on' at boot function and turn it off.

You must hold down the FN key on your keyboard and the NUMLOCK/INSERT key simultaneously (1 time) to go back to the default letters on your keyboard.

The @ is where the " is and vise versa. The # is at the backstroke key and you would no be able to find where the backstroke key is. The # key will now a £ sign. The ~ key is at the shift key above the backstroke and the ~ is ¬ key. It sounds to me you have your regional settings wrong, a UK keyboard has the @ near the enter key, but a US keyboard has a " near to the enter key on the same key if you get what I mean.

    To change the default language:

    • Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Regional Settings.
    • On the Regional Settings tab, click the language that you want to use, and then click OK.
    • When you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.
    • In Control Panel, double-click Keyboard.
    • On the Language tab, click Add, click the language you want to use in the Add Language dialog, click OK, click Set As Default, and then click OK.
