Can I use PC as a Remote Control For Sony Hi-Fi System?

Hi guys, I have a Sony Hi-Fi System (too old) and i lost its remote control.
Can i use my computer as a remote control to control my Hi-Fi System? do i need to buy any hardware for it?? i know there are a lot of Tech-Heads around, who'll surely help! thanks for you future responses!

Didn't get your point?? you want to use your computer as a remote for Hi-Fi system? If you like the sound of ur Hi-Fi, why don't connect the computer's output to the Auxillary (AUX) input of ur Hi-Fi. you can then play music from your computer to on your Hi-Fi, using the Hi-Fi system as the amplifier and getting the same sound from the Hi-Fi speakers..!!

Even i know that...!! (i'm not Dumb). i want to experiment a little! (My friend did that & i dont wanna ask him as my Ego doesn't allow me that) I wanna do this, can anybody help..!??

Requirements:

• An MS-Windows machine running Win95/98/2000/Me/XP.
• Visual Basic 6.0
• A free serial port on your computer.
• A stereo that has an infrared remote support.
• DB-9 female plug.
• Infrared LED (looks like a clear or violet LED).
• Any length of 2-conductor wire. Any phone, data or speakers wire should do (Wires of bad quality, or enormous lengths, might not work properly).
• Solder wire and soldering iron.
• Coding Of Software For Remote Control On Computer. [Download Here].
  

What to do :

• Reveal the conductor in both sides of the wire.2. Shorten the LED's legs to 3 or 4 millimeters, using the wire cutter.
  

• Solder both leg of IR LED to the 2 conductor wire (one leg to one wire).
  
• Make sure you don't short circuit!
• In the other side of the wire, solder one conductor to the back side of pin #3, and the other to pin #5
  
• Close the plug cover.
  
• Connect to the computer and install the SimpleRemote
• software.
• Done! Enjoy!!

Is this like, a pc in one room can control a music system in the another room?

Its an IR remote (infra-red Remote) so u need a line of sight. this may work from other room if there is no obstruction between the Remote which is made and the Hi-Fi system!

I have The same problem, only my Hi-Fi system is a 'ROTEL RX-950 ax' reciver.
a) Can I use your solution in my case ?
b) I have a software (ProntoEdit) with the appropriate ccf file will that be good enough ?

It should work! try it out, if it doesn't just download source (software) for ur Hi-Fi system... try it out it hardly costs a dolar. (Rs.50/-)
