Whoa, If you want to keep your current one Id definitely get some more ram, maybe bout time for new cpu unless you just surf the web but i could see you having a hard time opening multiple applications with that ram. If you got a spare 350 bucks i can get you a rig that will run all the newest games and open as many apps as you want. keyboard/mouse/monitor/cd drives excluded.
Here have a look
256 MB: Size just sufficient for use (in XP) desktop software and the Internet. Does not good performance with software edits photos or fairly recent games (as there are 2 or 3 years).
512 MB: Size very comfortable for the office, enough to fairly recent games and photo editing but not enough software for mobilizing a lot of system resources.
1 GB: Size even comfortable enough for all uses described above, including video editing and gaming recent
2 Gb: Do really justified for the CAD, 3D CAD and games very heavy
The ideal would be to replace:
The motherboard
The processor
The memory
The Hard Drive
The graphics card
And let the Remaining Parts as it is
