mouse not responding

Hi,
Do you have idea what is happening?
Sometimes, not always, I am starting the computer, and the pointer is blocked in one spot, doesn't move and the mouse doesn't respond.
I will restart the computer, and than it works. Sometimes mouse blocks in the middle of action, and needs one or few times to restart the computer, and again it works properly.
So,I think that the problem is not in the mouse, because it works after restarting, and maybe its virus, but i had NOD32 and now Kaspersky and scan the computer often.
Please help, its annoying when it will block just like that

Your drivers may be corrupted. Reinstall drivers properly.

Re: mouse not responding

Which mouse are you using wireless or wired (USB or PS2)? Also other than the drivers as said before, recheck the mouse connectivity and if you are using USB mouse than change the port and confirm that the issue is not from the USB port failure.

Re: mouse not responding

Hi,
Initially when mouse is not working Two main possibilities are there each with Wired and else with the Wireless.
If you have optical mouse then there are chances when your systems battery is low.
And if you have wired connection then Drivers of the mouse may be corrupted.

so please let me know what kind of Mouse you are using.
Thanks

Re: mouse not responding

  • Make sure that the mouse is connected physically to the correct port and that it is not loose.
  • Check the mouse wire to make sure it has not been excessively twisted, bent or damaged in any way.
  • If you have another mouse that you can try in place of this one, try swapping them and see if the problem goes away. Similarly, you might want to try your mouse on another PC and see if it works. (Remember that drivers are often specific to certain types of mice; you want to swap with another mouse of the same type, using the same interface, either serial or PS/2).
  • If you are using a PS/2 style mouse, make sure it is not connected to the (identically-sized) PS/2 keyboard
  • connector. This of course will also make the keyboard not work properly.
  • If you are using a serial mouse, you may have a problem with the serial port itself. Resource conflicts and other problems with the serial port are fairly common.
  • If you just upgraded your motherboard
  • and now your mouse is not visible, a likely cause is that you left the old cables that attached from the serial port connectors to the motherboard headers in place. These cables are not universal, and you might now have the wrong kind installed for your new motherboard.
  • If you are using a PS/2-style mouse, remember that the mouse uses IRQ12. In some situations, this may cause a resource conflict with another device
  • If you are trying to use a PS/2-style mouse on a serial port, or a serial mouse on a PS/2 port, you must use a so-called "combo" mouse. These are specially designed to be able to handle the different electrical signals that are used by the two different mice. Some mice will fit the adapters physically but will not function correctly because they cannot handle the different signaling levels required

Re: mouse not responding

What kind of mouse is it? If it is an older ball mouse, then remove the ball assembly and pull out any dirt and gunk that has built up in there. If you're a keener, you can also take the whole mouse apart and remove any gunk that has fallen inside too.

If you're using a newer optical or "'Lazer'" mouse, then there could be several problems. Make sure that nothing is covering the bottom of the mouse (such as a piece of tape). Also, try using the mouse on another surface such as a mousepad or a piece of paper.

The problem could also be a faulty mouse, or one that has been dropped and banged around a few too many times. A new mouse is only a couple bucks, keep in mind.

Re: mouse not responding

Thank you very much to all of you.
The installing of new drivers helped, so the mouse(PS2optical wired) now works properly.
