Man, you say the BIOS passwords are stored in the battery of the motherboard, so when we take the battery out, the passwords will also come out with the battery.......so how do they get reset????? If I put the battery back , the passwords stored in the battery also are restored, isn't it?

cmos battery does't hold any password or it doesn't carry any memory it provides continuous power(D.C voltage) to the required bios so when we turned off the system even it holds temporary memory like primary memory and passwords etc so if we remove cmos battery the continuity will break down and stored information(primary and if any passwords) will be loses..i hope you've got it.

Remove and replace the jumper on the motherboard that clears the CMOS. This may be listed on your motherboard documentation as something regarding CMOS or BIOS.

Re: How to unlock hard disk password on BIOS?

    Dear all,
might i present a personal experience which went a little off-course when i removed the battery of a desktop computer. it'as back in high school when i had a pentium III, after i removed the battery from the mother board, all the settings (including password) were reset but the problem that arose was that everytime my system started, it completed the memory check 3 times in a row. it'as pretty frustrating. My suggestion, based on personal experience would be to go for the "Jumper" settings. it's usually located near the CMOS battery and occasionally labelled as well. it might be abbreviated like "CLR_CMOS". Removing the battery also has a chance that u might break the battery slot while trying to remove the battery.
    Better safe than sorry....

Hope this info puts someone out of his/her misery.

Close to the BIOS battery there should be three pins with a jumper covering two of them Clearing the password involves switching that jumper to to cover position 2 and 3

Remove the BIOS battery.Switch the jumper and leave it like that for 5 minutes.and switch it back again,re instate the BIOS battery back, Put the power cable back in, wait 15-20 seconds and power on the computer.
you can see a checksum error.never mind it...

Re: How to unlock hard disk password on BIOS?

hello everyone, i was just looking for the Hard drive unlocker and i found this topic. i read all the topics and my friend i think ur problem with the laptop is not with the battary or bios it is another chip called EPROM this chip is special for passwords, so if u take the battary out it will not be erased, and it needs a special Eprom reader it is an device that must be connected on the chip so u can erase it.
just dont try it alone it is dangarus. there is posibilitys that u blow up ur mainboard. it is better to take it to a specialist or a profesional technision,
    hope that i was helpfull

This information is intended for experienced users. It is not intended for basic users, hackers, or computer thieves. Please do not try any of following procedures if you are not familiar with computer hardware. I'll not be responsible for the use or misuse of this information, including personal injury, loss of data or hardware damage. So use it at your own risk.

    A. By Using the Motherboard Jumper:

In most motherboards CMOS battery is soldered, which makes it difficult to remove the battery. In this case we use another method.

Almost all motherboards contain a jumper that can clear all CMOS settings along with the BIOS password. The location of this jumper varies depending upon the motherboard brand. You should read your motherboard manual to check its location. If you don't have the manual then look for the jumpers near the CMOS battery. Most of the manufacturer label the jumper as CLR, CLEAR, CLEAR CMOS, etc.

When you find the jumper, look carefully. There will be 3 pins and the jumper will be joining the center pin to either left or right pin. What you need to do, is remove the jumper and join the center pin to the opposite pin. e.g. if the jumper joins center pin to left pin, then remove it and join center pin to right pin. Now wait for a few seconds and then again remove the jumper and join the center pin to left pin.

Make sure to turn the PC off before opening the cabinet and resetting the jumper.

    B. By Using Software:

I have found that BIOS/CMOS Password Recovery Tool is the most effective.:
BIOS/CMOS Password Recovery Tool is a program that works instantly to remove any lost or forgotten BIOS/CMOS password. Simply boot your PC to DOS and execute the program, and get access to forgotten BIOS/CMOS passwords in just seconds
