How to test my Hard disk (HDD)?

Can some one help me. How can i test my hdd if is ok or have bad sectors. Is there any command or program for testing a hard disk?

Most simple way to hook it up & see if it works. If it doesn't spin at all, or just kinda 'wiggles,' it's probably completely dead. If it spins then there's hope. Either way if it's not working it could be the drive itself or just the circuit board on the drive, and getting another circuit board from an identical drive could fix the problem.

Error Checking, sometimes referred to as chkdsk, is a hard drive testing tool that comes with Microsoft Windows that can scan your hard drive in search of a wide range of errors. This tool can also attempt to correct a number of hard drive problems. Error Checking replaces older Windows hard drive diagnostics such as "scandisk" and "chkdsk".
Open My computer - right click on the drive say C: drive
now click Properties Choose tools tab & click on Check Now. Two options are available in the next window:

*Automatically fix file system errors
and
*Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors
click start wait till process ends now restsrt your computer if asked.
