All of a sudden my USB devices conspire against me (Vista)

Hi, I am new to this site so hopefully I am posting in the right place.

Yesterday I noticed that my speakers weren't working and when I investigated, I discovered that my computer believes that no audio devices are installed. I am using an M-Audio Fast-track Pro as an interface to two speakers. As I looked around further I realized that none of my other external USB devices (Seagate hard drive, Samsung printer) are working either. The computer says that the printer is offline, although it is turned on and plugged in. The external hard drive doesn't seem to be "seen" by the computer at all.

I have no idea what could have caused this. All of these devices were working just fine a day ago, then suddenly weren't working when I returned to my computer yesterday. So my wife is wrong, I guess -- the computer really will die if I stop using it for five seconds!

If anyone has any help that they can communicate to me that will help me fix this problem, I will be extremely grateful.

If it was working fine before then you could try to system restore to a date previously when it was working fine.

It looks like the USB drivers have suddenly stopped working due to some internal issue. In System Tools, in Device Manager, click on the '+' sign of Universal Serial Bus Controller. You will see all the USB roots there. Click on one of the controllers and try updating the drivers. Then check if that USB port is working or not.
