Heavy Hardware Damage Due to Software

Greetings. Can software cause heavy damage in the short, medium or long term to our hardware?

For example: install XP on a 5GB hard drive or install Vista on 384MB RAM

    Good.

My answer is no! It will make machine slow.

For example the Windows XP disc in a 5gb. I install Windows XP on a K6-2 or a pentium2, with disc of 512 nothing has happened.

Nuance example of such a test with fewer than 512 you may have starting problems.

What could cause overheating due to power, video card and chipset.
But as I have said before that it will hang the pc several times!

    Greetings

I always stay with the doubt ,can a rise in temperature could damage the motherboard.
