Running Android Market on PC using Google Android Emulator

You must be knowing how to run a android in your system using the emulator if not then you can refer this guide Run Android on Computer using Android SDK Emulator . now let’s see how can we install applications from the android market using the Android Emulator.

Getting started

To begin with you will require a Android Emulator setup on your computer. Now in case if you don’t have it then you should refer Run Android on Computer using Android SDK Emulator you will get all the information. Having got that, its time to download the new Android Virtual Machine that has the Android Market installed. Having downloaded them start extracting it. Now open up the Android virtual machine folder and copy all the files and folder to .android/avd folder..

In the .android/avd folder open up the AndEmu.ini file in Notepad. Now the reason of opening up this file in the notepad is that we need to do some small changes in the path. Look at the pic given below replace the Documents and Settings\user with your real user_name. once done with the changes, save the file.

Its time to get started with the virtual Android. Open up the Android SDK Manager. You will be able to see new AndEmu listed in your android virtual machines. Select it and hit the start button.

Setting up new virtual android

If everything works out correctly then you would be able to see the new Android emulator starting up. Yes it will definitely take some time to get started up initially but later one the process would be very smooth. Here is a snapshot below on how it will look like

Once it gets started. Click on the android logo to setup your virtual device.

You will be given a small tutorial on how to use your android dev phone 1. Read it if you want more information on that and in case if you want to skip it then you can very well do that and go to home screen.

Now once you are in the home screen. You will be able to see the home screen that has the android link in it. in fact you can see your android phone on the screen with all the options that can run in your system as well. since this guide is about installing apps from android market using the emulator. So we will click on the android market.

It will ask you to setup a google account. If you already have a Google account then do add the necessary information. In case if you don’t have then create a new one and fill in the necessary details. Once you have done that it will sync with the Google servers and give you the necessary terms and conditions. Click on accept and move ahead.

Now you will be able to see all the applications from the android emulator itself. So if you want to view the applications, purchase it or download it, you can very well do that. You can browse applications by categories which you want to download. If you find anything good, then select it and click on install.
