Mac OS X iDeneb Installation Guide for HP Mini

Many of use always believe in checking before buying. You can do that easily by going in your nearby shop and viewing the demo product. But for advance work like software or hardware testing we prefer to run a sample on our system to get a better feel of the same. This guide is just for the same purpose to provide you and way, by which you can run OS X on HP Mini 110 series laptop and check that how an ultra-portable can perform on Mac operating system.

The below guide will help you to install OS X on HP Mini 110 series laptop using iDeneb. There are many other guides which you can use to install better version of Mac operating system. There are several issues in installing this operating system on non-apple devices. But there are enthusiast who wants to test and run Mac based operating system on their current system. There are number of boot loader also which makes your job easier, but there are many bugs. And that is due to different hardware architecture. Those who own an ultra-portable laptop like Hp Mini can use this guide to run OS X on it. But this is a testing purpose guide, you cannot use a commercial operating system for free. There are some legal fees that you have to pay to the manufacturing company.

The guide describes many process which leads to extreme modification of systems hardware and firmware. So that can be a bit risky if it is not performed well. So the entire risk lies on you. Better go through this guide and many other guides and tutorial also before performing any changes. This guide can recommended for this who has better knowledge about formatting and creating multi boot disc. There are certain pre-requirement that you have to follow before doing this. And if you do not meet this pre-requirement then better avoid the below steps.

Note : Remember that using Apple operating system without purchase on your system can be illegal. So be ensure that you had found an authorized copy of the operating system.

MAC PC

The below entire process if for Mac OS X System. For those who want to do this on Windows can skip the below and jump to Windows part.

Pre-Requirements :

• First you must ensure that that the netbook must have at least 16gb of free space. Better if more than. You can keep an dedicated partition separate for this. Enough free space is essential for partitioning and creating a boot media for OS X. Lack of space can cause failure of entire process.
• Verify that the bios version of HP Mini 110 series laptop is above 5.0. The setup cannot work on lower version of bios. You can run the updates if you can found any better source of bios download.
• You need an flash drive or an external usb drive. The minimum space recommended for the same must not be less than 8GB. Also keep an usb mouse ready for further process.
• Download iDeneb version 1.3. It is not recommended to go with any other version. I tested on this and it worked fine. But if you want you can try another version on your own.
• For running Mac OS X on Hp Mini there are some patched files which are needed at the time of setup and after that. This files are kext, gui patch, osx86tools, uinstaller, etc. I am here providing an list of files below which you have to find on your own. You can search on web : HP Mini OS X Essential Files. There are many sites which are providing this. Below list is just an reference you can use.

How to create a bootable iDeneb Disc :

Before beginning one thing I will ask you to first create an iDeneb OS X version 1.3 disk image. Keep an multiple copy of the same. You can download it from the web. Download only the 1.3 version only. Because I found this as the most stable one, and there is no bugs also. It is also right that many of your hardware or app will not work on this. But atleast you have a look how the interface of this operating system is and its performance.

You can create a bootable iDeneb disc in many ways. There are some ready to use installation programs on web which helps you to generate an automated disc. I am mentioning a similar step to that. Usually it is recommended to use this via USB flash drive for better speed. Many time I had faced a bug while running setup and making changes via CD. Usb flash drive are more reliable and you are aware that every ultraportable supports usb boot disc. You can use an usb dvd drive also but I am not sure that this work or not. So the easiest way is to go with an usb drive. Before beginng you will need to create an Mac bootable partition. That can only be done with the help of system which has Mac OS X. An tool called Disk Utility is used for this purpose. Mac based system cannot read Fat32or Ntfs drives. They have different kind of partition format.

Creating iDeneb Mac OS X bootable USB drive on MAC

If you cannot manage an Mac system then you can use EFI disc. This cd can give you Disk Utility support. It is an bootable disc. This is an alternative way to format the usb drive on Mac readable partition. The first process begins with creating a usb drive that Mac operating system disc can recognize. This is an very crucial step and ensure that it is done properly.

1. Run Disk Utility. It is located in Application > Utilities.
2. In the window on the left side you can see the drivers listed. Choose the pen drive and then click on Erase.
3. Now click on Volume Format > Mac OS Extended > Erase
4. Once things went fine there then click on Restore. When you will click on Restore you will need to provide the location of .iso file of iDeneb image file. Provide the place where it is located. When you find the same click and choose it.
5. Now you can see the iDeneb image file in Disk Utility window. Now there is an bit drag and drop operating here. So you must read this carefully. Now you can see iDeneb on the left side. There you can 1 more image which is quiet located next an Apple logo. Have a look on the same properly. You have to now drag that image at the source location. Once you did that properly and you can see the path then the next step comes is providing the destination. For this you have to drag the usb drive to the destination. This is easy once you understand you have to give the image location parth and then usb drive for destination. Then click on Restore.
6. Once you done with properly then run UInstaller. In this choose the formatted drive. You will need to tick some options here. Tick on Install PC_EFI v9 Chameleon Edition 1.0.12. Chameleon is an bootloader which is very necessary to allow Mac OS X boot from drive. If this bootloader is not installed you cannot run Mac OS X after reboot. Click on Install to install the bootloader. I had told you to keep some files ready above. You must keep the files separately copied in an flash drive.
7. An bootable iDeneb image is created now. You can now boot your laptop with the usb drive to get Mac OS X Installation menu. This was the just the primary part where we were creating a bootable media to run Mac OS X. Connect your usb and boot from usb. You can make those changes in the BIOS or choose the appropriate boot menu. Now you can being your Mac Installation.

Creating iDeneb Mac OS X Bootable DVD on MAC

• The above process was for using an usb drive and installing Mac OS X. But you can also do the same by using an DVD. Some of use surely need this.
• The start process is similar where you have to Run Disk Utility. When you are on Disk Utility then choose the iDeneb image file and click on Burn button. You have to now connect an usb dvd drive with an blank dvd. Now restart your HP Mini laptop and choose USB DVD as the boot media. Here you will also need some usb drivers and some black cd to burn necessary file. Keep a copy of all those files which I had mentioned on the start of guide on disc or usb.

WINDOWS PC

This is an separate method for those who are working on Windows. You can also create an bootable iDeneb disc on Windows. But the process is bit different. So have a proper look below. On Windows the process can be a bit frustrating. So it recommended that you must have both a usb drive and a usb dvd drive. Whichever work can be your choice. As an alternative if one process fails on once you can use another media for the same.

Pre-Requirements :

• 16GB or higher Free space
• Hp Mini 110 Series Bios version should be 5.0 or higher
• Pre-Requirement
• USB Drive not less than 8GB. An USB DVD Drive for additional support
• HP USB Boot Utility
• HP Mini files which are mentioned in Pre-Requirement of Mac OS X Setup

Creating iDeneb Bootable USB Drive on Windows

We begin by using a USB drive for this process. I found this really very easy comparing the same with an DVD drive.

• First format your usb drive to FAT32 format. This can simply be done by right clicking on it and selecting Format. Remember that under File System there must be FAT32.
• Now you will need a tool that can make the usb drive bootable. One of which I know is HP Boot Media. There are some boot files which much present in the drive so that Windows system can boot from drive. You can use HP Boot media to format and create a bootable usb dive.
• When you are done with that you will need to download an program called Leopard hd install helper v0.3. This tool is needed to burn the the iDeneb ISO on usb media. It is an very light tool that you can download from web. Download the file. The link which I had given you of 4shared to download Kexts file also includes this software. But the setup is bit tricky as the software is non-english. But no need to worry for the same. Read my steps below carefully before proceeding.

How to use Leopard hd install helper v0.3 (also knows as ddmac)

Because this tool is non –English it is really tough to figure out how to use this. You can take an print of below steps which defines each column of this tool :

As you had already downloaded the above linked folder extract the files on desktop. In than run ddmac.exe

1. Location of .iso file.
2. There is a … button next to the column. Click to browse location.
3. Destination to put the .iso file.
4. An small Tick Box is for Write.
5. And a button next to that is for Starting the process.
6. Option to add tboot to boot.ini file
7. When you tick this the tool will forcely write the bootable code
8. PC_EFI V8 (Extensive Firmware Interface)
9. The Progress bar
10. Log Box

How to create bootable usb via DDMAC

Once you understand how the above tools work you can then proceed to further steps :

• First choose the ISO file you got with you.
• Untick option number 6
• Now choose the USB drive in option number 3
• Check option number 4
• Click on option number 5

Now follow the screen instructions. This is not an tough process. The program will show you the process in option number 9. Avoid clicking anything when the operating is in process. If you face any kind of error like, the drive is write protected or any other that means the usb drive which you are using is not proper. It is fault and you will need to provide another one. That is why I told you to keep some additional usb drives with you.

Now you will need to collect those file which I had mentioned above :

This are very essential files to make your system work. Keep then ready somewhere in a pen drive for further process. Once the process is done properly reboot your system from USB drive. If the process is done properly then you can see the OS X installation menu on boot.

Creating iDeneb Bootable DVD on Windows

There is another process which is also mentioned above for Mac system. You can use this process to creat e an bootable disc and boot from USB DVD Drive. For this you will need an ISO burning tool. There are many like ISO burner, Nero ,etc. Download any of them. You can try FreeISO Burner for the same. Just run the software and from that provide the location of your iDeneb.iso file. You can then burn the disc. Other files then can be installed with the help of usb drives. Restart your pc using Bootable DVD option from BIOS and follow the installation.

The Final Setup

As you are done with everything above which helps you to create an bootable usb or cd/dvd drive then comes the setup of OS X instillation. The above process is just to get ready for the setup. The final setup needs more modification and care. However ay reading the above process you can create your Mac installation media and disc on Windows and on Mac System. Be ready with the same and do not forget to backup your data. That is necessary. Incase if the system fails to work or start, you can use re-formatting back again and run Windows.

When you are done with iDeneb Boot stuff you have to insert the boot media that you have created. Insert the same and boot from it. If everything is went fine you get Mac OS X installation menu on the screen. The first option is to choose the most appropriate language. Choose your language and give Next.

Now on the screen click on Utlity > Disk Utility. We are now going to prepare an partition in which you will install the file of OS X operating system. This is same process what you did for creating a USB Boot drive. You have to choose the partition format from the left pane and select > Mac OS Extended (Journaled) file system. This is located under volume. Choose Erase.

Once Disk Utility erase the drive exit it and choose next via using Tab key from keyboard. You have to provide the newly formatted drive as the destination of your current operating system. Further you can see an option called Customize. This can be used to choose the appropriate drive.

This part is important where you have to run some fixes and patches. In the Customize screen you have to expand the option Fix. In that section choose ACPI, CPU, and Firewire Removal. In the same way you have to gin Patch part and under chipset you have to choose ICHx Fix. Do this all steps properly without any mistakes. Once all went fine you can begin your installation.

Now there are certain important commands that are essential for proper functioning of this operating system. Your system will reboot and at that time you can see a message on the screen regarding migration assistant failure. It is your choice either you want it or not. If you want then hit enter when OS X boot when you see the countdown timer. I have to run some commands here to fix startup errors.

First run -s. Once your screen halts properly and text appears on screen type - “/sbin/fsck –fy. Hit enter. Now type passwd root and hit enter. Enter your password and this can be your regular password you want. Now type touch /var/db/.AppleSetupDone. Type reboot to restart your system. OS X will load back now. You are done with all setups now and there is only one essential part pending. This part is necessary for proper boot of OS X. This is done by installing the kernel extensions in your system. When the system is booted properly on boot, it will as you to provide your login/password. Enter the same and wait back to load desktop.

This are optimization types which are necessary for you to perform for smooth performance of the system. First it is better that you must create an different account which can be somewhat the admin access to the system. For that go on System Preferences > Accounts > + add a new accounts. Avoid any password for the same. When you restart, the system will load in the new account you created. I had told you some files which are needed. This is the time to apply those. I had mentioned those files two times above. Keep those files ready. Copy those files on the desktop and then run UInstaller app. In this tool you have to choose the hard drive first where the operating system is running. Then select kext package and PC_EFI v9 Chameleon Edition 1.0.12. Install this files.

Your system is ready now. Now you can use DST Patcher to make your system ready for getting updates. You can update the os to 10.5.7. There is application called DST Patcher GUI app which does the task. The options which you have to choose are Darwin/Mac OS X, New HPET Option, Apply DSDT Patch to: OS X drive. Some of the hardware like wifi, etc will not work. But there are patch available for the same. You can download the same from web and run it. It is necessary yto run Kexts in your system and before that you have to run repair permission using OSX86Tools. Kust locate the text files and apply them. Each file will activate different functions in the laptop. In simple words Kexts are like hardware driver for OS X.
