    How to Install Tally.ERP 9

    Tally.ERP 9 Installation


    Installing Tally.ERP 9 is a simple procedure which is explained in the forthcoming pages. On successful installation of Tally.ERP 9, a shortcut is placed on the desktop, a folder titled Tally.ERP 9 is created in the selected drive and all the files required to run Tally.ERP 9 are stored in this default folder. You can specify a path of your choice, if required.

    1 Pre-Installation

    To install Tally.ERP 9 the user needs to have administrator rights (Create, Write, Update, Modify and Delete permissions). Multilingual users must ensure that the operating system supports multiple languages. The Hardware requirements and Operating system required for a Client-Server and a standalone computer are as described below:

    2 Installing Tally.ERP 9 - Single User

    You can install Tally.ERP 9 using one of the following methods:

    Method 1:

    • Double click the install.exe icon on the CD.


    Method 2:

    • Click START from Windows.
    • Select RUN.
    • TYPE <CD drive>:\INSTALL.
    • Press ENTER.


    Follow the instructions displayed on your screen to proceed with the installation of Tally.ERP 9.

    1. The Tally.ERP 9 Setup Wizard is shown below.
    2. Click Next to continue with the installation
    3. The Tally.ERP 9 Setup screen appears
    4. Check Single User to install Tally.ERP 9 Single User/Silver Edition on your computer.
    5. Click Next



    6.The Tally.ERP 9 Setup appears


    6.1 In the Programs section check select Tally.ERP 9.

    6.2 In the Tally.ERP 9 Setup section, you can accept the default directories as shown or click on the buttons provided next to the respective text boxes to change the path of Application Directory, Data Directory, Configuration Directory, Language Directory and License Directory.

    6.2.1 Application Directory - The program files reside in this directory.

    6.2.2 Data Directory � by default Tally.ERP 9 data is stored in C:\Tally.ERP 9\Data or C:\Users\Public\Tally.ERP9\Data. During the installation process, the wizard detects and retains the data path of previously installed version of Tally.ERP 9.

    6.2.3 Configuration Directory � by default the configuration files reside in the application directory.

    6.2.4 Language Directory � by default the Language files with the extension .dct are stored in the application directory.

    6.2.5 License Directory - by default the license file with extenstion .lic resides in this directory.


    4 Click Next.

    5 In the Country/Language Selection screen, check Install Operating System Language Support to install Tally.ERP 9 with multi-lingual support.

    6 By default, India/SAARC appears in the Country Selection. Select Others if you are not residing in India or any of the SAARC countries.

    7 Click Install.

    8 The Setup Status appears.

    9 In the installer screen click Finish to complete Tally.ERP 9 Setup.

    10 Click Finish to complete Tally.ERP 9 Silver Installation.

    To start the Tally.ERP 9 application, double click the Tally.ERP 9 icon on the desktop.

    3 Installing Tally.ERP 9 � Multi User (Server)

    You can install Tally.ERP 9 using one of the following methods.

    Method 1:

    • Double click install.exe icon on the CD.

    • Press ENTER .


    Follow the instructions displayed on your screen to proceed with the installation of Tally.ERP 9.

    1. The Tally.ERP 9 Setup Wizard screen is displayed as shown.


    2.Click Next to continue.

    3.The Tally.ERP 9 Setup screen appears.

    4.In the Version section

    • Select Multi-User
    • Select Server Machine



    5. Click Next

    6. In the Tally License Server Configuration section accept the default License Server Directory, Port number and License Directory or specify the License Server Directory, Port and License Directory of your choice.


    7. Click Install

    8. On detecting earlier version(s) of License Server installed on your computer. The installer displays the License Server(s) installed.

    9. Check the required version(s) of license server that needs to be uninstalled.


    10. Click Install

    11. The Tally.ERP 9 Setup screen is displayed as shown

    11.1 In the Tally.ERP 9 Configuration section, accept the default directories as shown or click on the buttons provided next to the respective text boxes to change the path of Application Directory, Data Directory, Configuration Directory, Language Directory and License Directory.

    11.2.1 Application Directory - The program files reside in this directory.

    11.2.2 Data Directory � by default Tally.ERP 9 data is stored in C:\Tally.ERP 9\Data or C:\Users\Public\Tally.ERP9\Data. During the installation process, the wizard detects and retains the data path of previously installed version of Tally.ERP 9.

    12. Click Next

    13. In the Country/Language Selection screen, check Install Operating System Language Support to install Tally.ERP 9 with multi-lingual support.

    14. By default, India/SAARC appears in the Country Selection. Select Others if you are not residing in India or any of the SAARC countries.

    15. Click Install

    16. On detecting an active Windows firewall on the license server, the installer displays the following message.


    17. Click Yes to allow the Tally License Server accept connections from its clients

    18. The Setup Status is shown

    19. Once the installation process is completed, the Tally License Server & Tally.ERP 9 Installed Successful screen is displayed as shown.

    20. Click Finish to complete the installation process.

    5 Installing Tally.ERP 9 in Silent Mode (for Advanced Users)

    Large enterprises who require frequent installations of Tally.ERP 9 do not have to repeat the task of providing the same information for each installation, instead they can now record the complete installation procedure in a script file and store it at the specified location for later use.

    For subsequent installation of Tally.ERP 9 the installer uses the script file and reads the required parameters to complete the installation. This procedure is called Installing Tally.ERP 9 in Silent Mode.

    Record the Installation

    To record the installation of Tally.ERP 9, type the following command at the command prompt
    install /r /f1 "<path\filename>"

    Where:


    /r - record the installation

    /f1 - specify the path and filename.

    path - specify the path where the file has to be stored

    filename - name of the file to save the installation parameters

    Example
    Install /r /f1 "C:\SilentInstall\InstalParamts.iss"


    On recording an installation, the contents of the script file appear as shown below:


    Installation in Silent Mode

    To install Tally.ERP 9 in Silent Mode, type the following command at the command prompt:

    install /s /f1 "<path\filename>"

    Where:

    /s - install in Silent Mode

    /f1 - specify the path and filename.

    path - specify the path where the script file is located

    filename
    - name of the file to read the installation parameters

    Example

    Install /s /f1 "C:\SilentInstall\InstalParamts.iss"


    The Installer reads the parameters available from the script file to complete the installation.
