Clean Install Windows 7 Using An Upgrade Edition

Windows 7 may be purchased in various editions including Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Ultimate. Besides these editions are also different versions of the operating system as OEM, full retail and upgrade. If you purchase an upgrade to Windows 7 (7 Upgrade Windows) you are only allowed to upgrade if you have an earlier version of a Windows operating system. But what if you want to perform a clean install on a new PC? Upgrading Windows 7 DVDs work fine but it would not be possible to activate the operating system.

Follow the below given instruction for same:

    Step 1:

    • Boot your computer with Windows 7 Upgrade DVD
    • Click on Install Now to start Windows 7 Setup
    • You will find the next screen prompting for Product key , leave it blank
    • Unchecked the "Automatically activate Windows when I'm online" option
    • Click on Next
    • It will again ask for product key, Click on NO
    • This will keep the Windows 7 in Evolution Mode

    Step 2:

On the next screen you will be prompted for the installation type for which you have given two option.

    1. Upgrade
    2. Custom/Advanced

You have to select the second option i.e. Custom/Advanced.

    Step 3:

After installation, ensure that there is no Windows updates pending that may require a system reboot.

    • Click on Start
    • Click on Search and type Regedit.exe
    • Double click on Regedit.exe
    • Now navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Window/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE/
    • Click on MediaBootInstall anc change value from "1" to "0"

Re: Clean Install Windows 7 Using An Upgrade Edition

    Step 4:

You are half the way to the clean installation of the Windows 7 with the upgrade.
    • Now Click On Start
    • Click on Search
    • Type run and hit enter key
    • Right click on cmd.exe and select "Run as administrator"
    • Now in Command Prompt type slmgr / rearm and Hit enter
    • Close the command prompt

Now restart the computer and When Windows 7 restarts, start the Windows Activation utility, type your product key and activate Windows. It will work. An easy way to do a clean install of Windows 7 using a DVD upgrade. After all, this is obviously only fair because you already have an older operating system from Microsoft.

This post is based on the below given link which is having the detail about the installation on the Windows Vista. Check the link for the Windows Vista and see whether you like it.
