Windows 7 may be purchased in various editions including Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Ultimate. Besides these editions are also different versions of the operating system as OEM, full retail and upgrade. If you purchase an upgrade to Windows 7 (7 Upgrade Windows) you are only allowed to upgrade if you have an earlier version of a Windows operating system. But what if you want to perform a clean install on a new PC? Upgrading Windows 7 DVDs work fine but it would not be possible to activate the operating system.
Follow the below given instruction for same:
Step 1:
- Boot your computer with Windows 7 Upgrade DVD
- Click on Install Now to start Windows 7 Setup
- You will find the next screen prompting for Product key , leave it blank
- Unchecked the "Automatically activate Windows when I'm online" option
- Click on Next
- It will again ask for product key, Click on NO
- This will keep the Windows 7 in Evolution Mode
Step 2:
On the next screen you will be prompted for the installation type for which you have given two option.
- Upgrade
- Custom/Advanced
You have to select the second option i.e. Custom/Advanced.
Step 3:
After installation, ensure that there is no Windows updates pending that may require a system reboot.
- Click on Start
- Click on Search and type Regedit.exe
- Double click on Regedit.exe
- Now navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Window/CurrentVersion/Setup/OOBE/
- Click on MediaBootInstall anc change value from "1" to "0"
- Close Registry Editor
