How to Underclock your ATi 5870 Automatically?

    RivaTuner:

The RivaTuner is a very, very powerful tool with which you can manipulate almost everything on his video card.
At first glance, one of the featured kills almost and yet is still far more under the hood.

In this guide I will give an introduction to the use of RivaTuner.
Because I believe it makes little sense to explain each function in detail, we will immediately have a concrete goal in mind.

If the video card runs cool enough, they can easily overclock in games. However, when browsing the Internet or other types of office work, the performance of a graphics card is not needed at all. So you can underclock in such a case, to save power and increase the life span. But it would not be practical if the graphics card that could govern by itself?

This function supports fortunately already some ATI cards and is called PowerPlay. This rate wills the graphics card if it is not needed and again high clock frequency if their full power is needed.

Older and Ati cards have no such feature. But do not worry; this can easily be programmed via the RivaTuner. How this works is explained to you step by step in this article.

    Preparation:

    • Download the RevaTuner
    • Latest drivers
    • Video Card

First, we must allow the RivaTuner slightly lower clock speeds
set. Otherwise we would not get to 200/200 and the fan
would not can be controlled below 25%. In addition to the tab "Power User" change and change the following entries in the picture. After changing still has the check mark will be marked before entry!

    Creating Profiles:

In the System Tweaks window select the very top "enable driver-level hardware overclocking". Whether their number in the following message "Reboot" or restarts "Detect Now" is actually relatively unimportant. Now selects the controls at the lowest stroke at the Core clock and Memory clock. The values should however be not 200 and 300th.

This is your clock for the office operations. So that this is already at boot time of Windows, makes the "Startup settings" to "Apply overclocking at Windows startup" a hacking. Now click on or "Apply" and forgiving about the click on the floppy disk in "Overclocking profile settings" the profile the name "UC" (for UnderClocked). Then selects the clock do you want to use in games and save the settings under the profile "OC" (for OverClocked). Watch out here not to call the value too high, otherwise your video card blow.

Therefore, you should first know the potential of overclocking your graphics card. If this is not the case, simply choose the standard clock to the video card has from the first.

    Launcher:

Now go under the tab "Launcher" and press on the green plus. Select "Regular item" and then open a window to select "Items". Here you give up now with name "UC" and makes a hook at the Associated overclocking profile ". There then selects the appropriate profile, in this case, "UC" and it should be "driver-selected level. Then you confirm with "Ok". The same you do now with "OC".

If the two fan profiles and clock speed profiles are created, we need to worry about that they will be loaded automatically depending on the situation. We're lazy . To switch to the main menu of the tab RivaTuner "Launcher" The following menu is the item enter a name (2D) and the Item as shown on the Assign a picture overclocking and fan profiles. Then again on the green "+"button and an item for 3D drawn up.

    Hardware Monitoring:

This RivaTuner also detects if you play just one game or a text written in Word, you must first enable a value for hardware monitoring. This is called "Hardware acceleration" and is under the "Main" tab, under "Customize" under "Target Adapter" and then listed under "Hardware Monitoring". To activate it, click on "Setup" and is making "Data sources" next to "Hardware acceleration" a hook. The value jumps to 1 when a 3D application is started. Abandon point out again the hardware monitoring menu, and thus goes back to the "Main" window of RivaTuner.
In order for the hardware monitoring continuously in the background, we still need to the small icon in the RivaTuner hardware monitor on the top right of Hardware Acceleration.
    "Run Server".

    Scheduler:

Now go under the tab "Scheduler" and click on the green plus. In Task give her "a UC. Select the top drop-down menu "item", with "name" the desired item, ie "UC" from. Now go to "Schedule-run task" to "on hardware monitoring threshold event" and selects "Data Source" the newly capitalized value "hardware acceleration from". Give now at a "Threshold" has the value 0.5 (intermediate point, not comma). Select last but not at "Direction", "downward". In order for the untertacktete profile is active when the value of "hardware acceleration" spends less than 0.5, ie no 3D application is active (hence the value 0 is therefore). Repeat the whole now with "OC", only to give "direction" instead "an upward" so that if the value is an overclocking profile is started. With a click on the green "+"will open a menu set in which we all like to see in the picture.
The task we can name as we want. For switching from 2D mode to 3D mode select "2D to 3D" is selected.

    Rivatuner startup:

So that you do not have to start every time RivaTuner, so that these settings are active, go to "Settings" under "RivaTuner startup settings" and makes a check "Run at Windows startup" and select "via Startup registry key". Moreover, still makes a catch in "Send to tray on close" to RivaTuner is always running, to control. just change the stroke profiles.

    RivaTuner Statistics Server Auto Start:

RivaTuner so at any time the right information for setting the clock has profiles, must expect to be running a program called RivaTuner Statistics Server ". To do this you open the program which comes in the folder of RivaTuner. Then will appear in your taskbar RivaTuner icon with a green arrow. Right click it and click "Setup". Here you doing at the very top "Server settings" check "Run at Windows startup". You now have just their own "PowerPlay" programmed for your graphics card. So that your graphics card always runs at full speed only when it's needed.
