How to remove black bars on the top and sides of screen for the system which uses ATI Graphic Card

It is been observed that many are facing an issue that is black borders on top an side of the screen. It happens with the machine that uses ATI Graphic card and is been supported or executing under Windows 7.The thing is that I was using Windows Vista previously and then thought of using Windows 7. So I upgraded the system well with Windows 7 and I found that while playing Left 4 Dead 2 game to my system leads to form black bars on side as well top of the screen. Also it has been found by many the same problem. Many did try by making the clean install of the game, upgrading the graphic card driver but still no solution for the same. It seems to be a problem. But the thing is that it works fine when working under Windows Vista. It mainly gives problem while processing under Windows 7. Also other that that the scaling option in the catalyst driver is also of no help. Checking out on nVidia control panel for using the settings is of no help either. I have found a better way to get rid of this problem. So lets have a look to the solution and try it out. This guide will help you out to make the desired change to be implemented and you may be able to work with the application without any black bars appearing hence. The solution is provided as below.

Follow out the steps properly in order to get rid of the issue that is been faced. I followed this and got through well. Hope it may help you as well.

    • You need to get the most and the best stable drivers from the developers site that is AMD. Do check out for the thing well that the drivers you download is stable and not beta drivers as they may cause a huge effect. Also the stability of the drivers is much questionable. So do the needy.
    • It is very much essential that you should know that what type of GPU (Graphics Process Unit) you use. This is because this will help you out to get the device that is from the control panel option to the hardware and sound to devices and printers. Now under the navigated address you may get an option for the device manager. It is necessary that you login using administrator account as it required it to get access. Then you may see that device manager will open up the list of all hardware that is installed to the system. Now you need to click on the display adapters. You may get to know the name of the GPU that you use.. You can also check it out well for further clarification that is by checking out in properties option. You may also look out for the Catalyst.
    • Now you need to check out for the latest driver from AMD's Site. As you may get the desired Catalyst drivers and it may be ready to download. So get it done well and then perform the restart.
    • Now if you are trying to get the thing that is to make the game to run under Windows 7 you may still get the black bars on your game regardless of your resolution. In order to perform for the task it is essential that you do check for the thing which would be better that is you need to go to the Catalyst control center option and then set the settings accordingly which you like the most keeping the prospect in mind that it is able to get the newer Catalyst. Also it is necessary that you be in Advanced mode not in Basic.
    • You should now restart the system and then check out well for the thing that is opening the Catalyst Control Center you may get a dropdown menu labeled "Graphics" click that and you'll see a few options. Click on "desktop and displays", select your display, right click on your display and click "configure." Now you may observe that screen will change and you may get 3 tabs. You may find the Scaling options under these. But the thing is you may not be able to get the thing to process as it would be grayed. So to make it correct you need to do the following things:

    1. You should close the Catalyst Control Center and then make the Control panel to be opened. Now you need to set the resolution to the needed. Make the changes to be saved and then set your resolution which is not your desired.
    2. Now close the control panel option and look for the Catalyst. Then check out the Scaling option it will now no longer be gray and you can process with the same. Now it may be in fullscreen mode.
    3. You need to change it and then again set it to fullscreen mode. Now you need to save the changes and then close it down.
    4. Now open the Control panel option and then again set the desired resolution you need. Restart the system.

Now you may be able to work well.

Another way through which you can process out well for the thing. All you need to do is to make the issue to be sorted well that is by following out the desired steps as mentioned below:

    • You need to uninstall the x16100 driver you may have in the device manager. now as it is been done to shut the system down well and it may be that the resolution is been set to 1280*720 with black bars.
    • Restart the system and then start up by 800*600. AS you have logged in to the system it will install that is Windows the VGA driver. Check out in Windows Update from the control panel option
    • Check out for the latest update that is required. You may then find an update that is X1600 driver. As soon as you get the same get it well that is by downloading and making it install. Restart the system again.
    • Then as I was done with it I was back at 1280*720. You need to run the game under fullscreen mode and then check out by switching the backup to full resolution. It was working fine but with some stretched image. But it sorted out well by windows latest update been installed. So look out for the same which supports the AMD card. Checking out in Catalyst Control center. This will be helpful as well

Other way through which you can make the thing to be processed well that is by getting access to the Control panel option. the as it is been done you need to look out for the display option and make the things t o be implemented or worked by changing the display settings. Look out for the resolution and make sure that you put or assign the highest resolution. Logically the highest is been recommended. Also if the card is standard VGA been detected you can process out well by following the desired steps which is given as follows:

    1. You need to the drivers that is the utility disc for the device
    2. Now insert the disc to the optical drive and then check out for the device manager option
    3. Now in Device Manager you need to right click on the map and then Update Driver
    4. As it been done you need to choose Manual installation and then find a driver on My computer
    5. You need to specify the path of the CD player
    6. The driver will be installed.
    7. If you do not have the cd, it will download the driver from AMD's official Site
    8. If it is an executable, try to install under the XP compatibility mode.
    9. If it does not work, it will decompress the file with UniExtract, and make the installation manual from the Device Manager.

    * Hit enter
    * In arborrescence go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER
    * Look out for the desired game that you play. As per my example Left 4 Dead 2 video resolution

Finally the above things do work out well. If still not there are certain steps and methodology which may help out to get the issue to be sorted out well. You need to make the installation of the drivers of the device under Windows Xp compatibility mode that is by right clicking on the installer.exe file and then make it to install under the mode that you need. You can also make it to install under Windows Vista mode which supported well for executing. Other than this you can also make the system to perform a clean boot which can be done well by typing msconfig in the searchbox option. As it is been done you need to choose Hide Microsoft service under the selective startup tab. Now you need to make sure that the active services are deactivated or disabled. As it is been done you need to restart the system and then check out for the change which is essential for you to make it work well. This will surely help you well.

So this was the guide tutorial in order to get rid if the black borders or bars that appear while playing games under Windows 7 and with support of ATI graphic cards.
