    Macbook Pro sharing

    Macbook Pro sharing

Apple is becoming more popular every day. But most people still have Windows PC at home. If you have Mac and PC is running, you're probably going to want to share files between Mac and PC. can go both ways to access files on a Mac or Windows PC to access files Windows on a Mac Today I want to talk about how you can share files on your Mac and access your PC. The process is quite simple and should work until they are on the same network and have a crazy set up security settings on your Mac.

On the Mac, there are two types of file-sharing tools. Some are nothing more than an interface for the Web command-line client, crash constantly and provide little useful results. And then there's the good clients that are clean and well-programmed designs have rarely been articulated to ensure a file-sharing experience. Sometimes they are extended to new networks.
It may be useful, for example if you have two computers, share a common directory on the network. This is what I have done between a MacBook Pro (Leopard version but the procedure also works with Tiger) and PC Linux Ubuntu.

    TYPES OF MAC NETWORK :

    Bittorrent :

AcquisitionX is a representative of the latter variety. Stable and clean programmed quickly, the Gnutella client is probably the best file-sharing program for the Mac. And thanks to the ongoing work of the developer may now be exchanged not only through Gnutella, but also about Bittorrent. For, since version supports 123.1 AcquisitionX is the Bittorrent network .

    Single client on two networks

The joke is not that AcquisitionX is another Bittorrent client, but that acquisition is one of the few clients by supporting both the Bittorrent and the Gnutella network make sense. The advantage is obvious: a client for two networks save bandwidth and computing time, especially on the sometimes quite weak-Mac platforms an advantage not to be despised. It also fits the Mac concept of combining a clear interface with as many possible functions.

And does the bittorrent machine. A torrent file will be considered only in the program window, the download will start soon. At the same time displays Acquisition, are how many peers and seeds on the net. The download is fast, similar to the original Bittorrent client. Other tools such as Azureus do more here, but unfortunately not as economical with the performance of the computer, especially on older Macs, a non-negligible problem.

Unfortunately AcquisitionX has one big disadvantage: it is shareware, the tool costs about $ 18, payable via PayPal. Who does not pay, you must click away several times an hour a registration notice, which is annoying, but does not affect the functionality. The high price for a file-sharing tool, the developers certainly possible, always professional to work on the improvement of the program. With the success that brings regular updates on improvements and bug fixes - a service that must give the most freeware tools.

And Acquisition is a very user-friendly file-sharing tool. make clear, the menus and settings it even files sharing easy for beginners to navigate. Upon request, Acquisition invites media files in special folders, you can create an extra folder for movies, pictures and music. In addition, the tool fully integrated with iTunes: New songs are sorted directly into the iTunes library, mapped to request a playlist and then deleted from the file sharing folder. If the iPod connected, the song ends up directly there.

Overall, the Bittorrent support a step in the right direction. While booming the Gnutella network, since other networks are monitored heavily by the music and film industry. From the hit rate an eDonkey network is still at a few big steps. Especially large files, entire albums or films can be in the Gnutella network is difficult to detect and download. Bittorrent closes this gap and makes acquisition of choice for file-sharing services on the Mac.

    THING BEFORE FILE SHARING

    Permissions :

Mac OS X is a system based on permissions. This means that each folder and file is assigned who can or cannot open or modify.

There are basically three types of permissions:
    • Reading and writing: the user has full access (typical of any folder in our user account)
    • Read Only: Users can open or copy files but cannot save new files in that folder or change them.
    • Just write: type drop box, just save things, not open them or see them

    Re: Macbook Pro sharing

    Enable Sharing :

    • To share files on a Mac, you have to activate that option in the Sharing
    • System Preferences:
    • This will activate the box and see the list of folders you are sharing. You can drag the folder you want here and assign permissions for each user. The most important are your user which you want to add in your network.
    • You also have some advanced options to allow access to FTP or Windows computers can also view your Public folder (access SMB or SAMBA), the latter active if you're in a mixed network (Macs and PCs).

The Public folder and Drop Box :

    1. The Public folder is a folder that is on your Mac and is inside your user folder has permissions for reading and writing yourself and read only for the rest by default (can change). That means that what you have there you can open or copy others but cannot save new things there or modify yours.
    2. The drop box is write-only permissions so it does not, you can save any document there for the person concerned so see / modify / copy but you cannot see what's inside. You cannot see what other users have placed in the folder.
    3. I personally trust me users on my network so I have read and write access to my public folder for everyone (and not use the drop box) but do not let important things if someone accidentally deletes it (though Time Machine has saved me a few things).
    4. Also share with Reading and Writing my Downloads folder, so I can download stuff from my iMac and not have to pass it to another computer Public can catch me.

NOTE: Remember that if you right click on any file or folder on your Mac and you click Get Info you can individually modify the permissions of that file or folder.

    FILE SHARING ON MACBOOK :

Filesharing works with Mac OS X 10.5 only if the firewall is set correctly. Although file sharing Sharing on two Macs running Mac OS X 10.5 is enabled in the System Preferences, you can from one computer to the other only access, but not in the opposite direction.

Solution: The cause of the problem is probably the firewall. set in the Security preferences "must be either" access to certain services and programs or be allow all incoming connections "(then the firewall but disabled) is set so that the computer is seen in active file sharing from other Macs on the network. If, however Allow Only essential services active, file sharing works, even if it appears in the list. We have an intranet to share documents in HTML and PDF format on a server and occasionally need to reference the code corresponding to documents stored on a server or other computers on the network So far, the documentation we have referred to the document and the path where saved, but surely this can be included as a link into the code. We have done several tests with different options, but none seems to work well enough.

File Sharing : Apple changed the behavior of the shared files in Leopard and consequently, these changes also have been leaked to Snow Leopard. Shared files in Leopard and Snow Leopard allow greater flexibility to manage folders, user’s access.

Add a shared folder where you want : With Leopard and Snow Leopard is now possible to add a specific folder for the delivery or receipt of shared files. In fact, it is now possible to establish a much more restrictive policy when access to a computer, choosing input and output folders and preventing access, for example, our user.

    An example -

To select (or create) a new shared folder, we just have to go to System Preferences > Sharing and select File Sharing. Select the folder you've created and press the button + button and select that folder. Once added, users in the table can add users and permissions for each user.

    Agenda :

The integration of user shared folders can be done via the calendar. The Agenda, integrated with this and many other services, since this version of the operating system a very important thing to take good care. By adding a user from the agenda (or manually) can give you a specific password access option.

    Each folder a protocol :

In addition, each folder is eligible to use a different protocol. the three options we can choose from are:
    1. AFP: Apple File protocol, a specific protocol type Apple Layer 6.
    2. FTP: File Transfer protocol. ideal to give specific access to a folder through the internet to transfer files between platforms
    3. SMB: Samba, Windows PC network or attached devices.
    4. Each of the folders, once assigned a user may have different characteristics: From Scripture alone, reading alone and reading Scripture. This is the first step you need, and possibly already have implemented, but we prefer to detail for those users interested in totality of the installation.

SHARE THE DIRECTORY ON MAC OS X :

The fact that Mac OS X is based on Unix is a big advantage, it provides standard Samba which allows for an SMB share. Why choose SMB, simply because the standard shared directory is compatible with Linux, Mac OSX and Windows.

To enable SMB sharing, is simple. Just go into System Preferences, then click on Sharing. It must then activate the File Sharing and then click on Options and choose the type of sharing Share files and folders using SMB in our case.

ACCESS THE DIRECTORY FROM LINUX (UBUNTU)

Again, it's really very simple, because Samba is installed based on recent Linux distributions. Under Ubuntu, you should click on Shortcuts> Connect to Server. Then enter the following information:

    • Service Type: Windows Sharing
    • Server: name or IP address of the Mac
    • Sharing: Doc sharing
    • File: Your File name
    • Username: The name of the Mac user with whom you have shared
    • Domain Name: WORKGROUP
    • Name to use for the connection: My Mac

    SNOW LEOPARD :

Leopard, file sharing has been greatly simplified. Simply turn on sharing in System Preferences Sharing category. By default, all Macs Network will appear directly in the Finder, but it will only access the Public folder (box of deposits).

    • To share another folder (or volume, for example internal drive, partition), it will add the folder.
    • You can then solve the rights for users. Thus, only those rights will popup the folder.
    • You can easily add accounts virtual, i.e. only for access to your files being shared, even if they do not have accounts on your physical computer.
    • The option button will set the type of sharing (for a FTP connection type afp or smb (PC).
    • To access the shared folder you can connect using CMD + K and enter the protocol (e.g. afp: / / IP address of the Mac), or (Leopard only) through the connect buttons below.

    Screen Sharing:

If you use want to use ARD and also sharing in Leopard, it will check remote management
    • The options are identical, it determines the accounts, fees.
    • Otherwise, we simply check off Screen Sharing
    • Remember to click Settings to set a password
    • It remains only to click on sharing
    • and to identify (check "keep password")
    • You can choose the screen display, switch to full resolution (left button) and to copy and paste between two computers using the clipboard.

How to manually create a network between PC and MAC for document exchange and sharing of Internet connection:

    Requirement :

A modem for Internet connection which is connected to the PC
And the same is connected to your Mac via Ethernet cable.

    Configure your Mac:
    • Open System Preferences / Network pane
    • Location > New location
    • Insert name of your choice
    • Shows > Ethernet
    • TCP / IP pane > Configure IPv4 manually

For the exchange of documents you must go to System Preferences > Sharing pane file sharing foraccess to one public folder or the Windows Sharing for the Mac user and access all their data.

If you want to share other folders than the public folder, but without allowing access to data of any user can install SharePoint’s that allows us to choose which and how many folders to share.

    Configure your PC:
    • Network resources with right > properties
    • Local Area Connection with Right > properties
    • Internet Protocol TCP / IP (select) > properties

The PC could have the firewall enabled, so remember to create a rule to allow the MAC to see the PC. To share your Internet connection you just need to click on My Network Places and then right click > properties > select the connection on the right side and then right click for properties > share internet connection.

For the exchange of documents on your PC must be equipped with a password go to the following steps:

    • Click on Control Panel > User Accounts > Edit Account > Create password
    • To share a folder or we will select the folder or the entire HD, right click > properties > Sharing > Share a network and allow users to modify files.
    • Note: the Windows XP firewall is on by default and makes it impossible for the network connection

Another way of connecting your Macbook on the network so that you can share your files is via modem for Internet connection and the same is connected to the MAC, which is connected to the PC via Ethernet cable.

    • Setup the MAC, taking care to enter the DNS entry values of our internet provider they are usually two: primary and secondary.
    • Remember to enable file sharing or sharing windows as described in a.
    • Internet sharing enabled in System Preferences> Sharing> Internet via Ethernet or AirPort.
    • Configure your PC, remember to share a folder or the entire disk and to equip our Win user password as described in a.

In conclusion, the procedure for exchanging files over the network you just created:

    • To access the PC from the Mac: Finder > Go > Connect to Server (or Command + K) and enter smb: / / 192.168.1.1 (or IP address of the PC), win username> password and select the folder or the shared disk.
    • To access the MAC from the PC: we open Explorer and type \ \ 192.168.1.2 (the IP address or MAC), Mac user name and password for access to user data MAC.
    • The user name and pass are not required to access the public folder only if we activated the only file sharing.

HOW TO ACCESS MAC FILES ON A WINDOWS PC

If you have a Windows PC on your network, then you can share files with it from your Mac using any of the following options. The first method is very simple: you just have to copy the files you want to share in a shared folder that is fully accessible. In Windows XP this special folder is the Shared Documents folder, and you can find in Start> My Computer. To share it (like any other folder in Windows XP), click on it using the right mouse button, select Properties and then select the option Share this folder on the network of paragraph Sharing. In the Share name field, type the name that will be on the network that shared folder. You cannot use spaces. In Windows Vista, that shared folder called Public, and appears in the Navigation pane of every Explorer window. There is only one Public folder for the entire computer, not per user account.

The second method is to share any folder in Windows. To do this, click on the folder you want to share using the right mouse button, select the Properties option from the shortcut menu and click the Sharing tab. Then check the option Share this folder on the network. Repeat this operation on each of the folders you want to share with the Mac.

Back in Mac OS X, look for the Shared section of the sidebar in Finder windows. The shared computer should appear as a separate computer under that paragraph. If you are in a workgroup, click All, and then double-click on the name for the workgroup. (Unless you or your network administrator you have changed this, the Workgroup name is probably or MSHOME.) Now you should see a Finder window in the names of each PC connected to the same local network. If the files you want are in the Shared Documents or Public folders on your PC, then you're done. Should appear on the screen of your Mac, without requiring that you must enter a password. If the files are on another shared folder.

In the upper right corner of the Finder window and see the Connect button. Click on it. (If the PC is using Windows XP Pro, you must first disable Use simple file sharing. To do this, select Tools> Folder Options in Windows Explorer window. Click the View tab and uncheck Use Simple File Sharing. The PC will want to ensure that you are authorized to do so. Registered user selects, and then enters the name and password for your account on your PC, then select OK. Now there is a list of shared folders on the PC. Select the one you want to open and then click the OK button. The Windows folder should be opened in the Mac's screen, ready for use. The shared folder icon should appear on the desktop, and you should also see an eject button then the computer name in the sidebar of Finder.

The first thing you do is enable sharing of Windows on your Mac Here's how.

    Enable Windows Sharing on Mac

    • First of all, go to the menu option System Preferences and click Sharing icon.
    • Going to want to click the Services tab on the Sharing dialog. Here is where you can activate the Windows Sharing on your Mac.
    • When you check the Windows Sharing box, it prompts the user to select the file you want to share. You may need to click Activate Account or click the Accounts button to pull the list of accounts.
    • Address tab that is given to access the Mac from windows, i.e. \ \ My Computer \ user . you will probably be the IP address instead of computer name, something like \ \ 192.168.0.01 \ user .
    • And that's all! there is nothing else that you need to do to enable sharing on your Mac Now the problem is to connect through your PC. Here's how to do this.
    • The easiest way to connect is to use the Run command from Start menu. Click Start, then Run and type the IP address or computer name.
    • Now you get a dialog box where you enter your username and password for the Mac user account is shared. You can also store passwords, if you do not want to retype.
    • You can now see your Mac files and folders in Windows Explorer! You can also now copy files from Mac to PC or vice versa.

If you have problems sharing files with your Mac computer, post a comment and I'll see if I can help. I'll be writing a guide on how to access your files from your PC Mac, which is a bit 'of difficult, but still not too bad.

    Windows Vista

Before installing Windows Vista to your network between Windows XP and Mac OS X works fine, and now it's all become strange. When you try to access from your Mac (entering Network) to a PC with Vista as you get error Cannot open NOME_PC_CON_VISTA because I cannot find the original item. The problem is known and occurs because Windows Vista's used the new default NTLMv2 authentication protocol is currently not fully supported by devices and Samba client.

To make Vista backward-compatible Protocol LM & NTLM may proceed via policies or via Registry Editor (if you cannot use secpol.msc).

    Windows Registry :

    • Start regedit by typing regedit in the search box.
    • Go to : HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control \ Lsa
    • Double click right on DWORD (32 bit)
    • LmCompatibilityLevel : change the value from 3 (default) to 1
    • Click OK to confirm and then restart your PC

    Vista Group Policy Settings :

    • Type secpol.msc in the run box of Windows and then go to Local Policies > Security Options.
    • Then double-click on Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level and set the value of Send LM & NTLM responses. At last give OK to confirm and then close the Local Security Policy. Reboot your system. It assumes, for Mac OS X, at least one shared folder and the Windows Sharing enabled.

Sharing files between iPhone and Macbook via iTunes 4.0

The new iPhone OS, better known as iPhone 4.0 has many new features and functionality than previous editions. One of these new features could be the ability to share or otherwise manage the files on the iPhone from iTunes, and vice versa, to save the file to the iPhone from iTunes.

Although there were some applications for it, the truth is that many users complained of not being able to do it from iTunes, which marks the official application of the device. This new voice, if you want to call came after a photograph showing an area where you can share files with Mac, and drag the files to synchronize with the iPhone. It may not be what everyone expected, but at least you can do it from iTunes, greatly facilitating the work of file sharing. Although it will take to exit the final version, to see how it works.

    Mac on LAN

Not only the Mac can see the PC available in the local network, but said PC can also see your Mac. On the Mac, open the Sharing preferences. Select the File Sharing and click on the Options button. Enable the option Share files and folders using SMB. Under this check box you will see a list of all accounts on your Mac Select the accounts for users who want to make accessible to PC users, bearing in mind that you must enter the password for each user account. Click the OK button to complete the operation.

Before you leave the system preferences, check out the line that says other users can access your computer at afp: / / the name of your team. You will need this name. In Windows XP, open My Network Places, Windows Vista, select Start> Network icon on your Mac should appear in the Web browser. Double click the icon for the Mac public folder content will be available immediately. For the rest of the items, you would use the name and password of your Mac user account Write the name of your Mac in case (or IP address), then the backslash, and then the short name for your Mac user account (find the name in the Sharing preferences on your Mac). Then enter the password for Active Mac user account Remember my password option if you plan to return to that computer access in the future. Then click OK.

You should be able to see your Home folder. If there is no icon on your Mac, wait about a minute. Restart the PC. In Windows XP, try clicking on the Microsoft Windows Network or on View workgroup teams in the task pane. If you still do not see the Mac, you must add it using the hard way. In the address bar of any window in Windows, type \ \ name of your Mac \ short user name, taking care to use the backslash and not the normal bar. You can also enter the IP address of your Mac instead of computer name. In the future, you will not have to repeat this operation as the icon for your Mac should automatically appear in the Network window or My Network Places.

    MACBOOK FILE SHARING VIA PANDO

Pando is a program that lets you share large files (up to 1Gb. Or 1024 Mb) of any person known to the us to have your email. This program would be encompassed in the programs known as Peer To Peer or P2P (peer-to-peer) programs used to share files over the Internet. Some of the best known are eMule Windows or the Mac aMule , uTorrent, Azureus, etc. The difference between Pando, the program we will teach you to install and use is that you can use Pando to send such a movie to your brother through the network. One to one, no need to share a directory with the entire world. It is a more or less private communication files.

It is also possible to share movies and you can share a family movie recorded on the birthday of your daughter or without film, a free program downloaded from miMac.es or any other file type, the only premise is that it takes up more than 1 Giga although that's enough size. Pando i.e. there is cross-platform versions for both Mac and Windows and Linux so you can share a movie or file any computer user regardless employing, of course if you share or send a program for Mac, this will only work on a Mac but a movie for example works on any computer.

When you share a file Pando sent an email notifying the user that you want to download, however this will become clear we will now proceed to first download and install the Pando program to this end click on the link below Pando and the program you downloaded to the desktop of your computer for free. Pando Care has two distinct forms of payment for which you have to pay an annual fee and register in advance and a more free and anonymous, we are going to teach you to use us.

Once you download the file and after a couple of minutes, depending on your internet connection, the file will be on your desktop. Look for it there or use the option in your browser Safari> Window> Downloads for you Downloads window appears .

When performing a double click, click-click it start the installation process of Pando, first show you what is called a license agreement or contract, although this is in English is like all this type of electronic contracts, the company downloads responsibilities if the program causes damage to your computer or this virus is infected by using it, which is rather unlikely, or if you give a bad use.

Click the Agree that means I agree that the program can continue. Now a new window with a cube-shaped icon with an arrow as it is. Holds the mouse button takes it to a Finder window locate the folder Applications and release the mouse button on your Mac. The program is being installed in less than 30 seconds and you can find it in the Applications folder, open it and look for this icon of the cube with the arrow.

Let's first run Pando and then click. You will get a security alert like. Do not worry it is normal for the first time you run a program after being installed on your Mac, in other words, the Mac always warn you first, make sure it is a human who has taken the decision to run the program, if you fixed on the window with the security alert when you put the download which is very easy to think, if you just download now and I can open because it was me that what I downloaded.

If, however, without making a download and installation of computer use when you see this message without more care could have a virus on your Mac so you may want to quickly pass a virus to your computer.
Give the option open to show us the Pando program. Is displayed as a small window. To send a file to a known need only drag and drop the file over the Pando program window and a popup window appears.
Enter the email address of the user that you want to send in the below format :
    • To: Add the Email address
    • In Subject Enter the email subject
    • In Message you can extend yourself more on your explanation
    • Finally click on the icon above the word Send.

You must leave your Mac on pending shipment, represented by a progress bar of blue, if you need to shut down your computer, close it to open the program again Pando will continue to send the file where you left off. You are probably wondering if the target user needs to have Pando installed on your computer to receive the file, the answer is yes, but do not worry because in the email you receive says the system will need to install the Pando to download the file.

You'll notice also receive a copy of the email marked as (COPY) in your own email account so you can record of the shipment. Remember to remove the Pando disk image for it look for it in any Finder window and press the eject button beside you, one with gray form of a triangle on one line.

SharePoints is an application or a preference bread That Makes it easy to add and delete share points like in the old Finder. In Mac OS X by default, you are limited to sharing only what is in your public folder in your home directory. This Program Makes it easy to share Any folder. In Addition SharePoints Also Brings back users and groups management to Mac OS X as well as easy configuration of AppleFileServer (AFS) and Samba (SMB) Server properties. There are several other tools which also help you to perform the same.
