MINI GUIDE - How to choose a Fanless Desktop Multimedia PC

    Hello,

If it seems accepted that setting up a PC without a fan is complicated when one wants to play (at least one fan to the box or with food or a fan), it is possible to make a desktop PC / movies / music without any mechanical parts.

The goal here is not to discuss the interest and the cost of 100% liability I propose here to answer the following question : Which components to choose a configuration for 100% Fanless pc?

Here is an early response, however modest:

    Choosing a Power Supply:

    Can before the competition:
    • Fortron Zen FSP400-60GNF (400W)
    • SilentMaxx Fanless 400W MX460-PFL01 (400W)
    Silverstone Nightjar ST45NF
    • Fanless Power Supply (450W)
The choice generally is moving quickly towards the Fortron Zen FSP400-60GNF (400W).

    Choosing a Heatsink:

    • We often speak of the Noctua NH-U12P but it is made to operate with a fan.

    • We have the Scythe Orochi (http://www.scythe-eu.com/en/news.html): huge, the most effective for liability but it is really too big and become oversized for the office.

    • The Thermalright IFX-14 Inferno extinguisher "(http://www.thermalright.com) seems very good but obviously need a minimum flow of air to maximize its effectiveness.
    It is therefore:

    • Thermalright Ultra120 Extreme : very good heatsink, but it is again recommended that the couple have one fan, even if we can do without.

    • Thermalright HR-01 plus: The only "Fanless design for low-noise operation of the Thermalright range from the manufacturer. At first the other models all require a minimum air flow to maximize their effectiveness.

Conclusion: The Thermalright HR-01 seems to take over the rope.

    Choosing a Processor:

    • Intel Socket P - 2.40GHz - Bus 1066 MHz - L2 Cache 3MB - 25W TDP: a CPU for portable TDP is the best but on what motherboard to mount it? And what will be compatible heatsink? Idea to give up I think ...

    • Intel Core 2 Quad 2.33GHz Socket 775 - burning 0.04μ - L2 4MB cache - 95W TDP: a TDP of 95W is too ...

    • Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 to 2.8 Ghz Socket 775 - burning 0.045μ - 3MB cache L2 - FSB 1066 MHz - TDP 65W

    • AMD Athlon 64 X2 5050E (2600 Mhz - SAM2) BOX - 0.065μ - 1024Ko L2 - TDP 45W

Compared to the Intel Core 2 Duo E7400, 200Mhz for just under one can have TDP of 20W to win and save money : The Athlon 64 X2 5050E appears to be the best choice ... but the Core 2 Duo is so widespread and ensure compatibility in the future much more ...

What other components can compete with those cities? What is the best choice?

And finally, the trio below is the best?
    • Fortron Zen FSP400-60GNF (400W)
    • Thermalright HR-01 plus
    • AMD Athlon 64 X2 5050E TDP 45W

(The choice of the motherboard and possibly the graphics card is much easier, I propose to keep them later.)

It depends: the atom, in my opinion a good choice. But who likes to have a PC that runs really well with good response time and have a preference.
