A new tool has emerged under Vista: The Snipping Tool . You can use Snipping Tool to capture a screen shot, or snip, of any object on your screen, and then annotate, save, or share the image.

After you capture a snip, it's automatically copied to the mark-up window, where you can annotate, save, or share the snip.


It can capture all or a portion of the screen and save the image format. Png,. Gif,. Jpg or. Mht.

Here's how it works:

Run the tool Capture:

  • Go to Start / Programs / Accessories and select Capture Tool.

  • First, Windows asks if you want to add the tool in the Quick Launch.


Then the main window appears :



The various possible types of capture:

Click the arrow next to the New button, select a snip type from the menu, and then use your mouse or tablet pen to capture a snip.

Simply use a mouse or tablet pen to capture any of the following types of snips:

  • Free-form Snip. Draw an irregular line, such as a circle or a triangle, around an object.

  • Rectangular Snip. Draw a precise line by dragging the cursor around an object to form a rectangle.

  • Window Snip. Select a window, such as a browser window or dialog box, that you want to capture.

  • Full-screen Snip. Capture the entire screen when you select this type of snip.


Tools:

  • Once the catch taken, you have some tools to change it.

  • A stylus that allows you to annotate the image. Click on the icon of the stylus in the toolbar. The arrow next to the stylus allows you to customize it (change the color of the ink, the thickness of the line)

  • Highlighter

  • An eraser you can delete the recent changes to the catch.

  • The envelope icon you can send the capture by mail.

  • The icon Diskette allows you to record the capture format. png,. gif,. jpg or. mht.


Options:

  • In the Options menu, you can adjust some settings.

  • Especially if the red frame surrounding the capture does not suit you, you can

  • Change the color of the frame by changing the color of ink.

  • Remove Frame unchecking Show selection ink when catches are made.



To annotate a snip

  • Use a mouse or tablet pen to write on or around the snip.


To save a snip

  • Click the Save Snip button.

  • In the Save As dialog box, enter a name for the snip, choose a location to save the snip in, and then click Save.


To share a snip

  • Click the arrow on the Send Snip button, and then select an option from the menu.


Note When Snipping Tool is open, a white overlay appears on your screen until you capture a snip. To turn off the overlay, open Snipping Tool, and then click Options. In the Snipping Tool Options dialog box, clear the Show screen overlay when Snipping Tool is active check box, and then click OK.
